    General Gutter Questions

Continuous aluminum gutters are the way to go. Good gutter companies will usually provide gutters in a slightly heavier gauge for a small upcharge. It's worth it. Get the hidden hangers, not spikes. Prices tend to vary quite a bit so get 3-4 quotes.

    Replace air return

The return must be sized based on CFM required. Then consult a table showing the CFM capacity of various sizes of duct. This is run in conditioned space so if round won't fit, rectangular likely will.

    40' x 60' On the River

The patio finish looks really nice. I am about to have a sidewalk and porch done. Can you tell me about this finish and how it is done? Thanks!

New shop addition - GFCI questions

The other thread got the replies so let's carry on over there. I'll close this. Sorry for the parallel discussion. Thanks.

Clarification... are *all* outlets in shop required to be GFCI?

You all are right. We do follow the 2017 NEC, not the 2008. I was seeking to use only GFCI breakers instead of GFCI outlets. If I have to provide GFCI protection on these six circuits then I won't be able to use the tandem breakers I was hoping to use, and that will put me over capacity on...

Clarification... are *all* outlets in shop required to be GFCI?

My jurisdiction, Portland OR, follows the 2008 NEC. My shop is not in a garage and is attached, not detached. The more I read of this discussion, the harder it is for me to figure out if GFCI is required.

    (structural) filler for door threshold

Use structural grout and squirt it in there with a grout bag. You can get both at a masonry supply place.

HF 20 Gallon Parts Washer Mods

Michjacket, I just wanted to thank you for the detail on how you modified your lid. I just finished doing the same with mine and what a difference it makes not having the stupid lid in your face.

    Post Recession Shop Rehabilitation Project

Just read this entire thread in one sitting. Bravo! You don't need to buy a black oxide kit. You can do it yourself with a gallon of "Prep N Etch" from Home Depot, a wad of steel wool and a bag of manganese dioxide that I ordered too much of. PM me and I'll mail you some and you will be good...

    Finishing garage ceiling

You need ventilation. Easiest would be mushroom vents cut into the roof and soffit vents cut into the blocking or the soffits (depending on whether you have finished soffits). Can't enclose that space without venting.

Just started a home build, but I am more excited about the garages

I am really digging the geothermal/hot water management side of it. Super clean work. Very pleased to see a large home complemented by energy efficiency. Will the pool be somehow integrated? A heated pool in MD will be an energy hog. I hope there is something special being done for the...

Harbor Freight 13 Drawer Tool Box Issues

The heat and fishing line approach will not work on the new glue they use. It's a rock hard epoxy, not affected much by heat.
