That is exactly how i did it. 2x4 structure, cement board and slate tile with standard tile mix. Trying to upload the pics, i hope this works. The final picture shows some optical illusion, everything was straight - there was no carnival mirror effect in real life.

I dont post much and probably shouldnt from work but having just gone through this situation I thought what I did for some of my items might help spark a better idea with the audience. This wont work for big tools but for lots of little knickknacks, small parts, small tools, odd shapes, etc...
