Last night my wife and I were watching Murder, She Wrote, Season 1, Episode 20, "Murder Takes the Bus" (1985), where the victim was stabbed with a screwdriver, and I recognized it as an Xcelite. Here's the proof.
Announcement of the first Xcelite plastic handle screwdriver in Motor, Nov. 1930. BTW, most 1930 publications are full view on Google Books as of 1/1/26.
Just found this while researching catalog dates. In 1929 Stevens Walden-Worcester had a tool truck built that they called a missionary van. When parked, a switch raised the roof and expanded the sides to display the entire product line to their wholesale customers. The ad and articles explain fully.
Found this Charles Parker 33-1/2 at Goodwill yesterday. My first thought was it was an import due to the non-acme thread and other details, but it says U.S.A. Jaws are 3-5/8" wide.
