    Hanging Heater Installation

Hey Folks, If you got one of those hanging heaters installed, and didn't install it yourself, who did? I called two HVAC companies, one which I worked with before, one which I got bids from before for a different project, and both said they only install these in commercial spaces. They won't do...

How bad are Metabo HPT tools?

I wound up buying the Metabo HPT. I won't be returning it, but I've realized I think I prefer the 'trigger' style to the 'switch' style. It's a little too cumbersome to turn off for safety's sake, imo. Ah well. I've like 10 more minutes of using it, and it'll likely then sit on a shelf for a few...

How bad are Metabo HPT tools?

Good to know! I hadn't considered the Bauer. After the bad luck with Warrior I was hesitant to consider another HF brand.

How bad are Metabo HPT tools?

I've a need for a 4.5" grinder for a project. I suspect this will be the first, and last, time I use it for a few years. I have bad luck with HF's Warrior brand, and so I was looking for something else. Right now the choices are either a $45 Craftsman that comes with nothing but the grinder...

Has anyone taken car lift back out?

Only bidder, sadly. We had an issue with people breaking into the empty house, and lost ALL of the interested parties because we had to cancel the open house, and have cops show up instead, and other fun things. We made a profit off the place, at least, but I think that snafu cost us over $100k.

Has anyone taken car lift back out?

When I moved, the buyer's didn't want the lift (they were the ONLY interested party that didn't want the lift). They said that I either needed to remove it, or cover the costs of their having it recycled. So I called the installers, and paid them to remove it, and re-install it in our new...

    HELP! Freezing pipes!

I had that going. I left a steady trickle running, but it seemingly still wasn't enough. I'm going to insulate it, this summer, to help prevent these situations.

    HELP! Freezing pipes!

Yep. It got cold enough up where I am that our ENTIRE well system froze. Despite my heaters. I suspect my pressure tank is destroyed, and a couple of the existing pipes will need to be replaced. If they didn't freeze and split, I'll be utterly amazed, as they're absolutely rock solid. Plus, it's...

    Circuit Breaker Mapping

The circuit in question is in a kitchen. I historically have gone the "GFCI every outlet" route when doing kitchens. I know this infuriates some people, but I tend to like it. I was thinking of doing a single one, in this case, instead of my traditional route. This feels like cheating. It's...

    Circuit Breaker Mapping

Hey Folks, I've a wall of outlets that I can't readily open up (it's in the house, tbh). Here's my issue: I don't know which end is which. I want to add a GFCI to the circuit, but I don't know where the start of the branch is. I think I know where it ends, but I don't know where it begins. Does...

    Things Snap-On Tool owners say.

Oh, I won't disagree that, in some cases, there's a difference in quality. My key point is this: the ROI is rarely there. Craftman's warranty nullifies the benefit of Snap-On. Even if the tool is more durable, if Craftsman is significantly cheaper and has an equal warranty, why buy Snap-On? I've...

    Things Snap-On Tool owners say.

I feel like "overly trusting mechanics" are their biggest buying demographic. Someone I went to high school with spent like $50k on this massive toolbox they sell, and customization for it. He swore it was worth it, and a great investment. He had like $80k in tools he was paying for, from...

Lawn mower for 1 acre lot

Buy one used. Find a vintage John Deere or Cub Cadet or Sears. It'll be a fraction of the price of a new unit, and parts are readily available. Most of the guys in my local tractor club mow 2+ acres in one go with an old tractor. Our new Craftsman is supposedly good for up to 4 acres (it was the...

    New HVAC Installation Costs?

I would just keep using it, if I were you, and prioritize finding a technician/shop that understands the concept of replacing parts and doing service, and not just replacing units. Ime, there's two types of shops: those that actually fix things, and those that make their money off replacements...

Is a Scissor Lift worth the money?

Hey Folks, I've a two post frame lift and four post drive-on lift in my garage. The four post is used for storage, the two post is for big projects, and I could use something to make oil changes easy, since I hate using the drive-on ramps and crawling under cars. Mostly I was just thinking that...
