    Lighting: Overboard, or WAY overboard?

Do you have a link? That's a better deal then I have found. I'm thinking of buying 50+

    Lighting: Overboard, or WAY overboard?

Very intrigued by the fixtures that MushCreek just bought. With a little digging, these can be sourced for $8 each. It's the same LED tube that you would get for a T8 retrofit, but it comes with a small housing so it can be mounted directly to the ceiling with no fixture. They also come with...

Are you happy with them. Looks like you paid $13/bulb, which is what the naked bulbs cost elsewhere. The difference is, these ones don't need a fixture. Seems like a cool option!

    Lighting: Overboard, or WAY overboard?

Using the LUX math: The 60w equivalent cfl makes about 840 lumens according to HomeDepot The 150w equivalent cfl makes about 2,800 lumens according to HomeDepot 9 x 2,800 lumens = 25,200 lumens 27 x 840 lumens = 22,680 lumens Total 47,880 lumens. Your shop is 13x21 = 273 sq ft. 273 sqt...

    Lighting: Overboard, or WAY overboard?

So, I did a bit more research. While my layouts calculate the light output in lumens based on the bulb specs, the real question is how many lumens do I need? It seems that LUX and footcandles are both measurements of lumens per unit of area. LUX is lumens per square meters, footcandles is...

Good software for sharing plan ideas?

I've probably spent 50-100 hours in front of Sketch-Up doing designs for my last patio project or for the garage. It will fight you at first, but once you learn your style of working and the tricks, it's amazing.

    Lighting: Overboard, or WAY overboard?

Hi All, You might have seen my garage design in my other post: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=322405&showall=1 It's 26' wide and 28' deep, with very tall vaulted ceilings. It looks like this: (more mock ups on the other post) I'm working on my electrical plan right now...

Am I going to hate this design?

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! We'll see what the engineer come back with for a beam to free span it.

Am I going to hate this design?

Forgot to mention, I live in the foothills and have something like 85 lbs / sqt ft of snow load according to the county, even though it only snows a few times a year. That's what drives up the beam requirements so much. Figures crossed the engineer comes back with a beam that won't break the bank.

Both for parking and working. Not earning a living, but working on projects. I'd love to build a real "shop", but this my reality. First garage build, on my first home. Next one will be even better :) Working on a pretty limited budget, doing everything but the slab finishing myself. Glad...

Am I going to hate this design?

The Porsche is roughly to scale (just downloaded it), but is probably about 1' fat since they drew a turbo model. The lift does add width though. 26x28 is the absolute biggest I can do. I'm up against a property line setback, and am trying to avoid setting it right in front of my house. I...

Am I going to hate this design?

The lift might not be there day 1, but I certainly want to plan for it. I have two classics I want to store plus a daily driver. A three car isn't an option because of the space I have available to build, so I figured a ~$2k 4 post lift to store a seldom-driven classic could be a solution.

Am I going to hate this design?

Hi All, I'm getting ready to pull the permit for my new garage. Below are a bunch of pictures of the 3D mock up I did based on the plans. This garage is being added to my property, about 100' away from my existing house. The funky two-tier roof is to achieve two goals: 1) match the look of...
