Gotta admit, I'm lost. What the heck is a "tail vise"?

Both of those are vise nice, but what I'm really interested in is the light blue vise the York is sitting on! What is that? Very old Fortis?

The Unofficial Vise Parts Swap Thread.

Neil, Unfortunately, there is not much demand for parts for these homeowner's grade vises. You'd be better off making your own replacements out of aluminum or brass/bronze and using it as a "soft jaw" vise. They are extremely handy sometimes!

Oh now I see it. Well, I certainly wouldn't lose too much sleep over that fine repair. I've come to grips that if I want to get the rare boys without paying a million bucks, I'm going to have to be okay with a repair job here and there.

Maybe it's bc I'm on my phone, but what am I missing? Is it a shame bc it's not in my collection?? Lol

Hell no, it's a beautiful color. In fact, I like it on some other vises more than I do on Wilton vises, at times. Yours are good examples. Nicely done. S/F, -Matt

I had a feeling that you'd have the ad scan for that vise, Fierljeppan! That said, if you look at the base on his vise, it looks more like the Parker version than the Bonney version, but it lacks the shelf on the rear jaw. Maybe a transition model?

hey so I happen to have a vise main screw that might actually fit that vise. Can you PM me the dimensions and thread pitch? I can check it against the one I have for you.

Yeah I agree...I don't like you railroad-stand-owning buggers anymore either haha Well, there ya go! Can't say I haven't seen it anymore. No worries, I was thinking that there might have been a massive one out there and I just had to see it. I've got a 439, but it's been repaired. First by...

I think that's a fair enough judgment call to make, though I've never personally seen a "homeowner's grade" vise with Morgan markings. I wouldn't be surprised if Morgan partnered with the same company that made these streamliner-type vises to have an offering at the lower-end of the market...

That vise seems to be in reasonably good shape. Around here (DFW area), I'd expect it to be in the $200 range, but heavily dependent on no cracks/repairs and how nice the jaws and jaw towers are. Your pics seem to show a reasonably nice vise, but more detailed images would be needed for a better...

I'm curious about this as well - I've got a Parker 439. What is the jaw size on the 449? I'd assume they are of a similar era and that the 449 is just a larger version? *agreed* Not that it helps, but I've got a Ward's-branded vise that is just like the Jordan vise.

Is the Parker 31 a rare ******? Or what am I missing? Make it three! Semper Fi, boys.
