3hp 40 gal Puma air compressor

Sorta wished I had bought a 5hp two-stage, but it was several hundred dollars more, and my shop was already wired with 12-gauge. Anyway, mine does have the highest CFM ratings of any compressor I've ever had, which the charts say are good for a cut-off wheel and medium size die grinder.

    Fresh Air for Conditioned Shop

In our 3-year old home here in north Texas, apparently code requires a fresh air intake, because new construction houses are much tighter these days. Mine pulls air in from the patio ceiling, and I assume the duct is connected to the return plenum on the air handler. I don't know if there is a...

3hp 40 gal Puma air compressor

Two-stage 40 gallon would be the TE-3040V (3hp) or TE-5040V (5 hp). You would need a 30 amp circuit for the TE-5040V. http://www.pumaairusa.com/products-10.html Overall mine is approx 53" tall x 26" wide. Tank diameter is 20". The three feet stick out about 4" from the tank.

3hp 40 gal Puma air compressor

I'm running it off a 240volt/20amp circuit, which is actually around 248-249 volts. Wire gauge is 12. The 3-cylinder 5.0 hp version requires a 30 amp circuit.

3hp 40 gal Puma air compressor

Motor tag specifies amps at 208 and 230 volts, which I assume is FLA. So, that would equate to around 12.2 amps @ 240 volts, right?

Where to buy mini split/heat pump

Can you post photos of the differences, or links to what you like to use? I hear a lot of bad things about flimsy wall brackets with poor finishes. Thanks.

3hp 40 gal Puma air compressor

Bought this in early 2022 from Green Valley Compressor in Keller, TX. At the time (still recovering from the Covid slow down), just about everything I had considered from vendors like Home Depot, Lowes, HF, etc. was out of stock. The guy at the store called the Puma company to see what they...

AC power for mini-split AC system

No, this circuit is dedicated to a mini-split. I had it installed when the shop was built. I went with 240V/20A, just to ensure I'd have a choice of mini-splits. Also, the unit will draw half as much current as its 120 volt brother. But I do have another 240V/20A indoor circuit to power an...

AC power for mini-split AC system

Gotta wonder how many of any type A/C compressors are wired properly. In my experience, it's been one of the installers who does the wiring. At my last house we replaced two very old 2.5 or 3-ton units with a single 5-ton zoned system. The installers used one of the existing power cables...

AC power for mini-split AC system

I haven't bought the A/C system yet, so can't post a photo of the nameplate. Turns out the disconnect is only a switch, so I guess my best bet is replacing the 20 amp breaker with a 15 amp. But I'll wait until I get the A/C system to decide what to do.

AC power for mini-split AC system

So, for that specific Pioneer mini-split, it looks like I'll need a disconnect with a 15 amp fuse on each hot leg? I'll check mine in the morning to see if it has a breaker or fuse(s). It was installed by the electrician who wired my shop, and it's been a while since I looked inside.

AC power for mini-split AC system

Pioneer WYS012GMFI22RL-10 Spec says 208-230, but somewhere else I found it listed as 230 +/- 10%, and a tech guy confirmed it. It's a pretty common spec. Same as my Puma air compressor.

AC power for mini-split AC system

I'm looking to buy a DIY mini-split system powered by 230 volts +/10%. My shop already has a 230 volt circuit (actually around 245) with 12 gauge wiring protected by a 20 amp breaker. I also have a disconnect box on the outside wall. The vendor is telling me I should use a 15 amp breaker to...
