    Atlas Drill Press

Thanks, Frank. The base is also a little unsteady. I've been working out how I want to bolt it to the floor, or at least to a larger base. It hadn't occurred to me that it may have originally been a bench model, but I bet you're right. The main shaft doesn't have the typical vertical...

    Atlas Drill Press

I've been searching Craig's List for a Unisaw in decent condition at a price I wanted to pay. I found one; 220 V, HP unknown as yet, single phase. It was purchased in a package that also included this drill press. Here's the little I know about it so far: Atlas Drill Press 1/3 HP Jacobs...

    Rock Island 574

That looks good. I think that's the right way to handle this thing. Have you ever gone looking for paints at a larger auto parts store? If you're like me, you better take a leak before facing that wall.

    Rock Island 574

That's the thing that leads me back to thinking I should paint it.

    Rock Island 574

Someone from Garage Journal had a spare center bolt he salvaged from a Rock Island 74. We hoped it would fit, but it would only thread a turn before stopping. After deciding I didn't have the tools to measure or cut, I took the parts to a nearby machine shop. Two weeks later, and he had the...

    Miter Box and Saw

I found this Stanley #60 miter box and saw yesterday at a flea market. I believe all the parts are here, at least I haven't found anything missing yet. I found a video on YouTube about someone restoring a similar model. Have you restored a miter box and saw? I'd like to see how you...

ISO Center Bolt for Rock Island 574 Vise

Thanks, Jack; I had plans to take the two parts with me to the hardware store this week, it's about half an hour away, but just didn't find that block of time needed to do that. At least then I'd have a better idea what threads I need, but I intended to stack washers on the bolt held with a nut...

ISO Center Bolt for Rock Island 574 Vise

I've had (and used) my grandfather's Rock Island 574 vise since he died in 1983. I decided it was time to clean it up, paint, and re-lube it. I discovered that the only part holding the vise to the swivel base was an over-tightened swivel lock mechanism. The center bolt is completely missing...

Well, drat. Hey, though; thanks so much for taking the time to look. I appreciate it just the same. Maybe someone else will have a spare?

That's a beauty. It looks like your ratcheting mechanism is original to the press? I've seen some videos of people who modify theirs to work like that using a socket handle. What do you use your press for?
