    Craftsman Drill Press Restoration

I found about an hour so I took advantage of it. A little time in the blast cabinet and now I can really see the damage on the pulley cover. I am calling it character, once I get some sand I will see what I can do to braze it up. The broken piece is sitting a little proud of the rest, so it...

    Craftsman Drill Press Restoration

Cool. Great information! The spindle cover will have to wait until after christmas. Hopefully there will be one available. Thanks for the heads up. I knew I was missing it but had no idea what to call it.

No I wasn't, I was measuring from the ID of the pulley surface.... guess that's wrong. Thanks :lol_hitti So my correct slowest speed is around 214 rpm with the measurements of the outside diameter of each pulley being 1.75" 2.75" 3.75" 5"

I did my own work, pulleys are as measured from smallest to largest. 1" 2" 3.25" 4.5" The motor speed is 1750 rpm and all three pulleys are same just flipped. By my calculations that would make the slowest speed about 109 rpm. Does that sound about right?

    Craftsman Drill Press Restoration

Wow thank you for the pictures. The wedge looks a lot simpler than I was going to make it. Looks like I am missing the plunge depth set up. There is one on ebay right now but it doesn't have the collar and I am not sure if it is the correct one. If anyone out there has a source for...

    Craftsman Drill Press Restoration

Cool I could use all the help I can get. This is as close as I have gotten so far. I can't find anything that says this isn't the same machine. The measurement from the post to center line of the chuck is the same as this machine and markings are all the same...

    Craftsman Drill Press Restoration

It looks like I am going to have to make a new tightening wedge for the jack pulley. That shouldn't be too big of an issue.

    Craftsman Drill Press Restoration

I have seen people on here braze the cracks in cast iron, this is probably the option I will chase. It is something I can do with the tools I have and done well I think it works out. I snapped a couple more pictures of the jack pulley. I can't find a number plate anywhere on the press. I...

    Craftsman Drill Press Restoration

I know this isn't the first or the fifth or probably not the 20th drill press resto on here but hey, might as well have another. I am heading over to vintage machinery to get some more information on what I am dealing with. Here are the before pics. This will probably be a slowish...

my new to me welding table

I brought my flatbed trailer and an engine hoist and a tow chain. The guy I bought it off of was telling me his horror stories of when he had to move it to his new place and how he and a few other guys had to man handle it into the truck. With the engine hoist I could have probably moved it...

my new to me welding table

Thanks for all of the feedback guys. drivesitfar Thank you for the pictures, I have seen that table before but it has been a while. I like the set up and think it is a great idea. I could easily weld it up here so it's got me thinking.... It's great that you are local, I know there are a few...

my new to me welding table

Today I took a small bed to a beat up craftsman 6" metal lathe and some spray adhesive. I glued some 60 grit alum oxide sand paper to the way and painted a guide coat on the table. Basically using the lathe bed as a really big heavy sanding block. Then went from corner to corner at a 45...

my new to me welding table

Some good ideas, thanks guys! I think being able to move the table easily will be too useful to ignore, so I will be looking into that when I get a chance. I want to clean up the edges and create some kinda of tool racks at least so that everything has a place. The surface is 72.25" x...

my new to me welding table

I think this is very sound advice. I am going to just be happy with what it is as far as the surface goes, clean it up a little more and use it. Time to learn how to cut with a torch....

Mike, Would you be able to point me in the direction of the casters you used? I know these things can get very pricey.
