    Show off your.... Carlyle Tools!!!

Don't buy that ****... Their tools are nice for duralast knockoffs, but the price is not. 119 is crazy talk. The only modern stubby I own is the SK from the GJ hat/wrench packs, but holy **** is it nice, very nicely shaped but with a whole lot of metal, amazing finish, etc. I suggest that you...

A pair of old beauties at the scrapper

When I found a freon test torch kit in the trash, I thought it was an insane waste of a tool. I can't really fathom that, what kind of braindead employee would scrap that and not nab it?

wtb - approx 250ftlb torque wrench

I need a reliable but reasonably priced half inch drive wrench - my bolt is 203, so it's got to go reasonably higher than that. I would also be interested in reasonably priced 3/4ths drive stuff (wrenches, sockets, impact sockets, etc)

Maybe I'm just young and dumb, but I thought the detent was supposed to be a bit before bottoming out, so that the top of your socket wouldn't be riding against your ratchet? I thought if you cut the drive off directly at the top of the socket, the piece you cut off would be a cube. And I...

Those are not impact.... impacts don't have chrome tops. It's just a different type of steel more suited to the pressures a screwdriver bit takes. I mean, you wouldn't want a chromed screw tip, for obvious reasons. Impact hand drivers have blacked tips that are interchangable in one yoke...

    Show off your.... Carlyle Tools!!!

It's the napa in alpine, texas. Didn't get too into it, they were closing and I was in a hurry. It was a blue tool cart. with a lower shelf or shelves or whatever, a lid on a gas shock, and under that maybe 3 or 4 layers of drawers, some full width, some not. Large carlyle script on a decal...

    Show off your.... Carlyle Tools!!!

I've read everyone say that, but their prices didn't look much worse than other tiwanese knockoff brands. I mean, I'm not super interested in the sockets, ratchets, or wrenches, I already have a few sets of american sockets, wrenches, and the like, as well as a full set of duralast snap-off's...

Anyone have any experience with the carlyle branded tool boxes? My local napa had a tool cart that they said is 379, but comes with 300 dollars of your choice of tools - I didn't have time to look too carefully and didn't want to get loaded down with enough tools to fill the whole thing when...

who has built a tool for determining torque?

Bear in mind that breaking torque is not the same as tightening torque, especially on dry fasteners. I'd be inclined to think you'd learn more by trying to drive the bolt in whatever direction you already torqued it.

who has built a tool for determining torque?

Torque is totally understood and well defined - it's conversion to clamping force varies highly based on the situation. That's why there's ballpark torque specs, that list a range. It'll do. Being exacting is great, but you won't learn anything from this machine you're talking about building...

    Snap On Repo Traded Tools?

I think everyone making a car analogy is missing something. Cars have titles - owning the title and owning the car are legally the same thing - however, leins can be put on titles, so that the bank still owns the car. You can go repo something that somebody still has, but not something that...

    Harbor Freight Coupon Thread

Reading this thread, especially the last few pages, I get the strong impression that nobody understands their business model, even a bit. Their "sale" price, which is already below the alleged MSRP, is still not the real price. Their price that they figure everything with is after a 20% or 25%...

    Insane Craigslist Seller/Craftsman Tragedy

I don't disagree. But I still don't get the whole bandwagon of beating up on the guy who just doesn't know what he's talking about. If I had to sell an estate of, say, oil rigs and service equipment, it would take me a while to figure the price out, but I'd rather start too high than too low...
