Tell me about your radiant tube system...

My shop is 40' x 80', I have two LP fired 80 mbtu overhead radiant tube heaters, one is 20' long, the other is 30' long. They run lengthwise (parallel to the 80' dimension) at the peak. They are about 15' off the floor and are controlled by individual wall mounted thermostats. It is seldom that...

    Propane forced air reccomendation

For just a little more money you can go to a propane fired radiant tube heater. Your ceiling is high enough. These units heat objects, the floor, etc. which then heat the air as they cool. No fan blowing air around and cycling on/off. Quieter than any forced air heater. I have two 30' units in...

    Location for exhaust fan

Generally speaking, welding smoke will stratify at 12-15' but numerous factors can affect this. One fan in the wall or even ceiling for general exhaust is a slow way to remove the fumes, and you do have to let some air back in to the shop to exhaust some air out. Your best solution is to capture...

    Need new AC/furnace

Go with a brand that reputable contractors in your area supply and install. Good contractors will not want to risk their rep. on unreliable products. Like mwchase says, they all have their problems. His advice is good imho.

    Wall AC Questions

If that unit rating is actually 23,000 btuh, I think you'll find it is more than adequate for your 700 sq. ft. garage, assuming you have decent insulation in the walls, and especially an insulated ceiling . If you don't want to tear the walls apart to frame an opening (properly) you can install...

    Portable A/C question

I would not expect a portable to effectively cool a 700 square foot space, but at least it would be quieter that the average 'window shaker' Benefits to the 'shaker are that it uses outside air to cool the condenser coil not air from the room, plus condensation automatically drains to the...

Thermostat has no voltage (Heating Only)

You did not mention what type of thermostat you have. More importantly though is if there is 24 volts a/c at the terminals on the circuit board. If not, you may have a fried board. No 24v at the board = no 24v at the 'stat.

edge guard material (similar to a grommet)-what is it called and where can I find it

We stocked the same thing in our sheet metal shop, it was called 'edge trim' and sold by Faucher across Canada. 165' rolls, I think.

Help me with my unit heater placement

You're right, a furnace and ductwork would be a good way to get more even air distribution. If you did that, it would be best to have it sized by a pro, so you can get the needed air volume to each duct. Dampers are a necessity, you need them to balance the system. I'll just climb up on my...

Help me with my unit heater placement

Option one: you're going to be cold! Option two will work, but there will be cool areas. Good place for:beer: Probably just fine for a workshop. I would add that supplemental electric heat you mention to the area you plan to use for detail or assembly work, just for comfort.

    School me on tube heaters

With only ten feet of tube you may find the ends of the shop are a little cool, especially by the door, but if you have a concrete floor it will absorb those lovely rays and probably heat your shop just fine. My 500 gallon tank easily lasts the winter ( two 80,000 btu radiant tube heaters, one...

Hanging furance ignited with a loud bang

I doubt if low gas pressure would cause the problem you describe. The suggestion about cleaning the orifices is a good one, I had not thought of that. There will be an orifice (looks kind of like a a Mikuni or Holley carburetor jet) for each burner. They simply screw out. The pilot orifice may...

Cold air return in Detached garage.

Your return intakes should go in at floor level. It sounds like you are heating the garage and the man cave with the same furnace. Be wary of carbon monoxide in the 'cave if you run engines in the garage.:scared: As for drawing in fumes of any kind, it really does'nt matter if the r/a intakes...

    Question on heating a 40 x 52 pole barn ?

Perfect application for a radiant tube heater. 80 mbtuh and 40' of tube, is what I would use in our climate. Center the unit on the 52' length, hang it as high as you can. If venting horizontally through the end wall, make sure to slope the entire heater and venting slightly to encourage...
