I got away from two coats. The primer to me is why I only use one finish coat and I use high quality paint. 16 gallons cost me $500. Benjamin Moore.
I'll take all your advice and backroll cause as you said... it's easy.
Rather not as the smarties here will have a party criticizing every aspect of it.
On edit LOL.... no engineering involved. Slab is 30 x 40 with 24" deep perimeter footers, poly covered and rebarred throughout. I personally made the templates for the anchor J bolts and laid them out.
Conventional painting still requires meticulous cutting in and taping off. With spraying you simply buy those rolls of poly that already have the tape and the poly pulls out to cover. Simple and not expensive. Watch a few youtube videos where they come in and move the furniture to the center and...
Well I finally finished the building and just went with a conventional slab.
I did use a local guy who really knows how to build them. $7800 to erect it.
I really appreciated all of the input here.
I'm getting ready to do a 24 x 30 freshly sheetrocked room with 15 foot vaulted ceiling. Did my homework. Picked up a used Graco X5 sprayer for $125. Most of the work is in the masking but the masking products they have today really make it much easier. No brainer. I hate painting with a brush...
Not sure how vrinner handled this but I wanted the studs to be flush with the steel work. Girts are "c" channels. So there is about a 3/4" or so flange that you have to work around to get the unsheathed 2x4s flush with the metalwork. Then I was able to lay my plywood flush over the metalwork and...
Correct. In hindsight, if that horizontal girt was flipped upside down I wouldn't have needed the 4x4 blocks. I needed a surface to nail into above. Putting the top plate inside would not get me flush with the front face. Took each 4x4 piece and put construction adhesive on one side. C-clamped...
Thanks for all of the advice. I'm now looking for an engineer to look at this. I'm in East Texas. I get the idea most steel buildings around here are built on slabs and they are so common that contractors just know what is required. Not having much luck finding someone so far. Can this be done...
I got the inside walls done except for the front wall that is already standard 2x6 construction to match the house. All that needs is the insulation and plywood sheeting. The 4x8 sheets of plywood around the steel areas was about 10" taller than the horizontal girts. I took left over 16' 2x4's...
