    The Bicycle (Specialty) Tools Thread

As I'm reading this, I realized I don't even know what the alternatives are. Sometime I'll have to look at a new bike and see what they're using now. My first W2 job, at age 16, was at a local bicycle shop. Each afternoon once school let out, I'd go to the bike shop and head to the basement...

    Rolling Mechanic/Garage Chair?

While not really an answer to the OP's question since it's not on wheels, but here's a stool I made for sitting at the telescope. I got the idea from an astronomy forum. It's called a "LYBAR" chair (Lift Your **** and Rotate). It provides four different sitting heights depending on how you turn...

Tool makeup diversity in your box

I buy quality tools used when the good deals present themselves. I'm not tied to any particular brand.

    Rolling Mechanic/Garage Chair?

I have the round one, too, but then I bought the better one when they were running a sale. It's a significant upgrade, IMO.

Replacing my Craftsman Screwdrivers-Which ones should I look at as replacements?

IMO, screwdrivers are like kitchen knives in that I no longer believe in buying "sets." My screwdrivers (like my kitchen knives) are an assortment of different brands, styles, designs, each picked up individually over the years. I find that there are a relatively few that get used all the time...

I like what he did with the wooden "borders." Gives him a place to stick labels and keeps the bins tight together. I also tighten up my Schaller bins with wood strips at the sides or back of the drawers. Seems to help with my OCD. As for drill bits (and taps/dies), I use a plastic drawer parts...

Word of advice: Buy more bins in more sizes than you think you need when you place your order. The bins themselves are cheap but the shipping always seems to run at least $15. It ***** to need a couple of $2 bins and have a $15 shipping charge. Plan carefully (use their drawer builder) and then...

Show me (And discuss) your toolbox organizers...

I've been working on organizing my tools. I've taken various approaches . . . • Pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, squares, levels and a bunch of other stuff hangs on the wall • I've spent a boatload of money on Schaller trays and have tried to puzzle them together as something useful • I've used...

    Strong drawer dividers or ideas

I was not aware HF sold an affordable brake. I'll file that away in the event I ever need such a thing . . .

    Strong drawer dividers or ideas

More brainstorming to try to inspire . . . In the gun world, people use racks to store pistols upright in their safes. The OP could build some sort of rack or stand designed around each tool he wants to store. I know the OP said he wanted to fashion some sort of dividers, but I'm thinking some...

    Strong drawer dividers or ideas

Looking at Harbor Freight's 12 Days sale listing for today I noted that they have a drawer insert designed for holding drills, impacts and the like. Maybe this will inspire something for the OP's particular situation: Seems like a fella could hobble something together using PVC pipe and scrap...

    Strong drawer dividers or ideas

You could run small screws through the side of the drawers to secure a wooden divider like the one in the post above. Drill a couple small holes in each side and sink a couple of screws.

Are tool truck sockets “worth it” for the professional?

I'm not a professional mechanic so what do I know. I have been a pawnbroker, though, so I know something about what stuff costs and what people will pay for stuff. My take on Snap-on and similar tool truck tools. They are generally truly extremely nice tools. Beautifully finished and often a...
