Been a minute...couple of updates.
Delays happened because of cold and rain so we had to wait on flatwork and the concrete driveway being done. But it was finally done the last week of January when the weather let up and the sun came out.
Overall it was about 1800 sq/ft. and I went with...
The entire length was about 155' and I bet it was very close to 100' just to the transformer. I didn't get any pushback at all on the length or the build itself, and BEC was very good to work with. Just took time to get on the schedule and wait for the work to begin.
Update up to now - trenching finished up and the POCO came out and installed the lines and transformer, and hooked up the meter head a couple of days later. And we have power!!
Unfortunately, the electrician that installed the service entrance put in a 200A box, and I had requested 400A, so...
The design was not billed by the foot. The entire distance ended up being 157' on the plan/design which breaks down to about $50/ft.
I suppose if I had more time and it was an expectation, I could have done it myself and/or contracted all or some it out. But there's guys that do this every...
Water line comes into the house, goes up inside the wall and across the garage attic area, then down into the interior wall, then out of the garage wall for a softener/filter. It's PEX and is insulated with foam pipe tubing and wrap all the way. And when the foundation was poured, the crew...
A few pictures of the trenching done today...the transformer will sit near the end of this trench, then the trench goes around the clump of oaks and heads to the road where the junction box sits
Hard to tell here but that is about 36" at least deep...
Giving it it a good try at least! :)
There is water coming in and over the top of the garage, but it's PEX, so there's little risk of it freezing. And I will cool the area, but only when I'm working...most of the time the big door will be open so it won't matter. Now when I build the big shop...
Agreed, and yes...I also noticed no insulation. Possible my builder doesn't insulate garage exterior walls, but I'll verify.
It's hard to tell, but I have 2x 240V 50A outlets in the garage, one on eahc side, plus one at the back of the house for a hot tub later on.
GDO was installed, ended up with the Liftmaster 8500W, which is the commercial version of the Chamberlain I was going to install. The installer went ahead and put in this one for us, which was awesome.
Work was supposed to happen last week from the POCO but, I had to get the builder to get...
Job hasn't been completed yet, but the cost from the POCO to trench and install (transformer and all) etc. ended up being just over $6200. Keep in mind that's just the POCO cost for build out and install, not the cost to build the house etc.
I didn't think that was too bad considering some of...
Update on this thread...POCO is installing service the week after Thanksgiving (finally!).
Question for those with experience here...who is responsible for the service entrance? POCO or builder?
POCO is telling me they need a service entrance, which as I understand is the meter base and...
Driveway and cement in front of the garage --- I'm looking at around 3K sqft. at $6 per sqft. which is about $18k. I just want to try and get it poured so it's as level/flat as possible, of course with the appropriate grade for drainage. Working on quotes for that with a couple of companies...
Time to update the thread since it's been a bit here. Drywall installed, taped and textured.
This was back in September
Casing on doors and windows, and baseboard all installed
Then interior paint...sometime in October
Note the light fixtures and outlets and covers
Not...
