    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

HF has some newer socket handles, ratchet, drive, whatever you might call them. Has anyone put them to the test? There's this one: https://www.harborfreight.com/12-in-drive-professional-flex-head-long-handle-ratchet-62332.html There is also one on the rack I'm not finding on line, there is...

    Roof OSB sheathing question.

A little late to the party, but keep in mind all OSB is not the same. Cheap 7/16 OSB will sag over time under the weight of shingles, especially a second course, and telegraph the joists. I've always preferred plywood on the roof for that reason, and spend the extra buck a sheet over 4 ply to...

Tool chest review - Sears, Tractor Supply, Lowes, Home Depot, Harbor Freight

You're right. The first time I looked at the web page, I saw "$298 each" I read that as each component. But when you look at the drawer count of 10 drawers, it has to be both the 4 drawer top chest and the 6 drawer base cabinet.

Tool chest review - Sears, Tractor Supply, Lowes, Home Depot, Harbor Freight

Yes. They are larger than what was offered before, but the construction hasn't improved. The slides are still among the smallest out there, and the sheet metal is still thin. Look at this photo from their website: Notice the dimple in the drawer just under the handle in the photo? If it...

Tool chest review - Sears, Tractor Supply, Lowes, Home Depot, Harbor Freight

Several new tool chests have shown up at Home Depot the last several months. One style of roller and top chest was a special purchase, and only available for a short time in November. Too bad, because they were better constructed than the current models. This is the latest offering that is...

Tool chest review - Sears, Tractor Supply, Lowes, Home Depot, Harbor Freight

Sorry, I've been working hard to pay for all my toys. And for some reason I'm not getting notifications on PMs at the moment. I too noticed the latest tool box at Home Depot. The construction is noticeably better than the previous line. Maybe someone is listening? I'll post an update when...

    Cutting/bleeding baseboard heat

I'm doing a small addition, and have oil fired hot water baseboard heat. I'm going to add some baseboard and remove others. I'm experienced enough with solder and flux to make a leakless joint. I can see the shut off valves on the circuit, both supply and return. What I'm wondering is after...

    V belt tension tool

Thanks - I think I'm going to try making one out of 2x4s and threaded rod first. Great suggestion! Courtesy otis66

    V belt tension tool

I'm looking for those threaded rod tools that expand as you rotate the hex threaded portion that apply tension to a fan/alternator belt. NOT a serpentine or flat belt tool. I've googled and searched, and don't find anything. Can you still buy these?

Are these pics on line hosted by a server, like Flickr, on a web page, or residing on your PC hard drive? There are different methods to post a photo.

    MDF vs Pine vs Hardwood

In several of my trim catalogues for a given common profile there are paint grade glued up pine, stain grade pine, and MDF. The number of options in MDF for the larger profiles is very large. Many of the larger profiles are available only in MDF. I'm sure this is due to the scarcity of good...

    MDF vs Pine vs Hardwood

I agree on the moisture issue. Anywhere water might find its way the MDF will swell and distort, so kitchens and bathrooms are obvious places not to use it. MDF sands very poorly. Use a very sharp carbide blade for smooth cuts. I think MDF is less suited to abrasion, and repairs to it are...

    HF 11 Drawer Cabinet

Get a roll of heavy duty Reynolds Wrap. Fold it over, doubled. That's the drawer stock on that unit. It is the absolute lowest grade out there. It does function, but you will never get the $170 back after you start to hate the box.

Wire weld vs. paper tape nail clips

I have a Bostich framing nailer, and a guy on the framing crew I hired borrowed it. Put a clip of paper tape nails in it. Jammed and cleared a few times, then jammed badly. He promised he'd get it fixed and get it back to me. Never saw the gun again. Paper tape nails in those guns - not...

    Recommend Me A Truck

Anyone in a snow state have a 10 year old or so Tacoma? I'm wondering how they hold up these days. My last one lasted to 185,000 miles, then within a month blown head gasket, bad transmission bearing, and the worst was bad frame rot to where a rear spring shackle mount let go right off the frame.
