    Soldering iron brands

I wouldn't say your irons are obsolete, but to answer your question....the main difference is the tips have the heating elements built in. If you look at the tip on an FX888, it just slides over the heating element. Whereas the tip on an FX951, or a Metcal has the heating element built into the...

    Soldering iron brands

I have a TS-100. I'm powering it with an old laptop charger. My only complaint is the cord I'm using is really stiff and heavy and makes it hard to handle the iron. Need to find a barrel jack with a nice silicone jacketed cable. I also own an FX888D which I use almost daily. No complaints...

    Unwrapping a Snap-on wrapped box

If you unwrap it, a steamer works well for heating and won't damage the paint.

    Trackless garage doors?

Local Fire Station put in 4 fold doors in their new station. I'm told they were almost $100k each :eek2: They also take up a bunch of space when open. http://www.doorengineering.com/Products/Commercial_Industrial/Four_Fold.html

    Your favorite Multimeter?

Nothing wrong with Fluke, but may want to look at the Agilent meters as well. To me, the Agilent's seem to be more bang for the buck.

Just curious, what kind of knife does garage and vise people carry?

You can fix tip by turning it upside down and grinding down the spine on a bench stone.

My new shop TV and DIY Ceiling mount

An ESR meter makes this type of work very easy. Often times it's the only way to find bad caps, as a cap can appear fine visually and read correct capacitance, but still be bad. Plus you can test ESR in circuit.

Picked up used portable table saw; how did I do and what to look for

I believe that's the same fence that's on my TS3650, pretty decent oem fence. That little orange dot is so you can mark the exact kerf line with a pencil, always found that handy  Be careful with it.....table saw is one of the few tools that scares the **** out of me.

    Open Stock Wrenches at Sears

Same thing here. That wouldn't be the Monroe, NC store would it? :) Couldn't make any sense of it, just seemed completely random

Just picked up a 60" wide industrial cabinet

You could make a planing jig and use a router on the top. Like this http://www.thewoodwhisperer.com/videos/flattening-workbenches-and-wide-boards-with-a-router/ I recently used that method on a butcher block cutting board that was nowhere close to flat and it worked amazingly well.

having some fun with the snap on box.

I really like everything about the shop except the green neon  You need to epoxy coat that floor

New Kobalt Ratchets Made in USA from Cripe

I got a bunch of the first gen Kobalt tools for pennies on the dollar when they were on closeout. I LOVE those tools, if I could go back I would have bought every last one of them (and they had a ton). I've bought some tools to fill in gaps in that set from Cripe, never any problems.
