First, thank you so much for your words of encouragement! It's really good to hear from someone as experienced as yourself that this is possible.
I couldn't agree more though that I need help to make sure it's done right though. I would happily pay a structural engineer to help me, but...
I agree that I have a shorter space up top and that will require more thought of how to support it properly.
I'm going to try and find a good framer if possible to come and look at things and help me determine if this is possible to complete this safely or not.
As stated before, cutting the trusses to make room is the only way I would do this. If I didn't, the lift would bring it up maybe 5 ft or so which as you said would make it a large pain to work on things in the crouched position and it honestly isn't worth it to me at that point.
If I find I...
My total barn size is 30x50.
If I knew a framer, this would help. Unfortunately most in my area are Amish, and have their contracts only through builders all of which right now are 1-2 years behind from everything due to Covid. I will still give this a try though as if I can't get a...
You make some valid points. However, I have measured and yes I have the room. I can't do it near the side of the barn, but if it's far enough away from the side, then yes, I should give me the clearance I need.
Going in between trusses would create less hassle. However, the layout of my barn...
I've seen them before, but my buddy has an Auto Lift brand, and honestly I'm in love with how well it's designed and how it does.
The max jack just by looking at it does not look quite as sturdy and actually costs more than the model I'm looking at.
In the end, it's not really the lift itself...
A picture is worth a thousand words, and right now words can't describe how thankful I am you posted this!
That's perfect. I can get some 1/8" steel square or rectangular plates and drill holes through them to make supports this way.
Yes, they are pre made trusses. National Barn Company made the barn and they have the plans but honestly these are a very standard truss design they told me and they are what you'd find in any barn around the area.
I checked and there are zero structural engineers in my area outside a large...
First, thank you for the good info. If I knew someone who was a structural engineer, I would ask them. I may try to look one up if there's one possible to get as that seems the best answer for sure.
You are correct as I don't know the lingo. I like to think I know a lot of things somewhat...
I would like to add a car lift to my barn. The main lift poles will fit in between the bottom of the support boards show here, however to lift the car up, I'll need to cut a good 8' section out of the bottom boards (the ones with the lights hanging from them) and then I'll need to remove the...
I did my ceiling in my barn in black. Yeah, it didn't reflect the light as much as something lighter, but it makes it dissapear more, and I have a TON of lighting in my barn anyways, so I think it turned out awesome.
Here's a link to my barn build thread...
So, time for an update. I got a good deal on this 60 gallon air compressor for $100 on Facebook marketplace. I wired it up to my breaker box (220V) and hooked up a few air lines to different parts of the barn. I tested it all out and it's working great! Did some plasma cutting with...
I've only noticed it doing that with agressively grooved (usually off road) tires. So far, just my ATV leaves tracks. All regular vehicles do fine without leaving tracks.
