Running two mini-splits off the same breaker

I'm pretty well settled on mini-splits for the shop, we have them in the house and absolutely love them. Cost-wise the difference is negligible, maybe even cheaper to go ductless, especially considering having to bring in propane lines or a second propane tank for the furnace (and the wildly...

Running two mini-splits off the same breaker

They are Mitsubishi H2i Hyper-Heat mini-split heat pumps. Model MXZ-8C48NAHZ for the 4-ton and MUZ-FH18NA2 for the 1.5ton. I don't have the units on site yet, just trying to get the electrical part done for the HVAC installers in a few days. Those amperage ratings are stated in the...

Running two mini-splits off the same breaker

They do not call for a fused disconnect, they just list a "recommended fuse/breaker size of 50A" for the 4ton and 20A for the 1.5ton. I believe it's up to the installer whether the 50A protection occurs at the breaker or a fuse. My thought is, I can run both off a single 60A breaker, then used...

Running two mini-splits off the same breaker

Didn't think about a subpanel, but I suppose I could just put a small 2-slot 60A outdoor-rated subpanel, then feed two nonfused disconnects off that. Actually, in that case, I suppose I probably don't even need the disconnects, since having the breakers right there probably meets the disconnect...

Running two mini-splits off the same breaker

Getting ready to install a couple mini-splits in my workshop, both are 240V. One is a 4 ton, 42A max current, recommended breaker size 50A. Second is 1.5 ton, 16A max current, recommended breaker size 20A. They're going to be located right next to each other outside. My question is, does each...

    Finally finishing out the shop

Definitely. I was thinking the last sheets I bought were around $14 each, I see now they are $7.35 at my local Menards, I didn't realize the price dropped so much during the construction off-season.

    Finally finishing out the shop

Built my 30x50 workshop a few years ago, basically followed the advice here and put 100% of my budget into building the biggest structure I could afford with no wiring, insulation or any other interior amenities, figured I could work on those as time and money allowed later. Pic tax...

    Power inverter

As others have said things like power tools and a microwave are probably too much for an inverter on batteries. Generator is definitely the way to go.

Single or double doors for maximize use?

I'll go ahead and chime in as well, I'd definitely go with a single large door. Our garage is about the same size, when we bought the home it had two doors and I thought it was a pain in the *** getting larger vehicles in and out. Years later when it came time to replace, I knocked out the...

    Replacing my T5HO's with LED

Sorta both - basically I want all my lighting to be the same. I need to replace the six T5HO fixtures in the front half of the shop, and add new lighting to the rear of the shop. I'd probably prefer to replace the existing 8ft 4-lamp T5HO fixtures with an LED of similar brightness, then I can...

    Replacing my T5HO's with LED

When I built my 30x50 workshop (12ft ceilings) I wired the front half with six of the 8ft T5HO 4-lamp fixtures Home Depot used to sell for $69. It's adequate lighting for the front half of the shop, back half is mostly storage so I figured I could add lights there later. Later has come, and...
