Check out patent number 95,392 granted to W.X. Stevens manufacturer Millers Falls for a hand vise. I believe this is the patent that was used for the vise itself, but the hollow handle was added. No reference to Alford. Maybe he designed the addition of the hollow handle but didn't patent it.
