    Plywood suggestions for workbench top

    Would a metal top be better for mechanical work involving oils and fluids? Could a removable metal sheet be used to cover the bench when a metal surface is required, such as for welding, or would you recommend a permanent metal surface instead of wood? Advantages to each?

    I haven't done this, but I think that if you put another sacrificial piece of wood beneath your plywood as you cut, it will help prevent tear-out, but someone else should confirm.

    Evaoporust ultimately destroys the metal. I had a couple rusted Craftsman pliers that my kids left out on the lawn.
