I cut the 45 degree angle at the top of the foam which allowed the cement to go all the way to the wall. As far as breaks and cracks due to thin cement next to the walls... so far so good. MPH

I took a Floor Polisher with a Scotch bright pad and scrubbed my floor after etching it and then with water and a big sponge, my wife and I, wiped the whole floor down. Yes I might of been a little pranoind but it got rid of the white powder residue. ;o)

Sounds like you are looking for garage makeovers instead of new construction, but I sent you a email anyways. Mike

I used 5/8 GWB (fire rated) throughout the whole shop. In the main shop I finished it smooth wall and in the bathroom and upstairs I put a light texture. Smooth wall = less for the dust/dirt to settle and hang on.
