From abandon building to world-class fab shop in my back yard

Nice job planning everything out. By any chance would you have more detail of the Barn Door and how they were made (material and assembly)that you are willing to share? I need to rebuild my doors. They currently look similar to yours but mine are falling apart and need to be replaced. I know...

Where did you buy your pallet racking??

Watch for stores that are closing or downsizing. Scored shelving when Toys R Us went down. They were scrapping them. Helped to know someone.

    Pigtailing Aluminum to Copper Wiring

Thanks RWJ That is what I was thinking but I had the porch redone and when the contractor pulled the porch light and found copper to Alum. He fixed it (so I believe) and did suggest I check the house for other situations. I did have the service upgraded when I moved in an the electrician did not...

    Pigtailing Aluminum to Copper Wiring

Not to hijack this thread, but how would one know if the possibility of improper Alum to copper exists in the house? At the Panel box or at the outlet/fixtures? House was built in the 40's but has had all types of work from previous owners over the years. Don't know if they did things right or...

    Vertical track only garage door

Have you considered carriage style garage doors that open out? I have old bi-fold doors that I will be re-building soon. There is a track on the outside that will slide as the door opens.

    Ceiling panel identification

Google "fibrous (or fibre) cement sheet" contains asbestos if that is the same stuff. Was used for a lot of different building material ceiling, walls. Only know what I briefly read. Good luck hope it is not this.

Vintage Garage Door Rebuild open to suggestions

I do have a Tractor Supply close enough and looks like they might have something. I am hoping to have a hanger off one door and out of the track soon to get a closer look. If I cannot clean it up and fix I will take the drive. Thanks MrGee

Vintage Garage Door Rebuild open to suggestions

Hey Jim Profile has been updated. The existing doors are about 1 3/4 inches thick. I have to take the actual measurement yet. On the first look I had thought the styles and rails (learned new terminology) were 2x8 and 2x6 with old T&G as the backing. The windows are sashes. I have looked...

Vintage Garage Door Rebuild open to suggestions

After watching youtube videos on making doors I think I have found a tool I should get. A Biscuit Joiner for the styles and rails. I am looking at the DEWALT Model # DW682K 6.5-Amp Heavy Duty Plate Joiner Kit or Ryobi Model # JM82K Biscuit Joiner Kit. Anyone know anything about either of these...

Vintage Garage Door Rebuild open to suggestions

The wood is not reusable with its age and condition. The newer milling specs don't match up to the old. As for the hardware: I could reuse the hinges with some paint stripping, the rail looks good, needs a paint stripping or a fresh coat of paint, as for the hardware attaching the rail to the...

Vintage Garage Door Rebuild open to suggestions

I had originally asked for some suggestions in the "Introduce yourself here" and it was suggested to come here for "Help with my Vintage Garage doors. So here I am and here is my tale. I have a standalone garage built maybe in the 40's. I say maybe because I know the house was built in the 40's...

    Hey from TR New Jersey

I have finally made it back with pictures. I think I have an idea as how to build new doors but I am worried about needing to replace the hanger hardware. In the picture you can see one hanger looks okay if I can unthread the nut over years of paint. The other hanger already is built up with a...

    Hey from TR New Jersey

I do plan on adding pictures. Just did not have any on hand when I joined. I have checked youtube and found the doors like I have but no hardware information. I am sure I can rebuild the doors but I am concerned that I may need to replace some of the hardware. Thanks
