    Vintage RIDGID Pipe Wrenches

SwampFox, to answer your question about current factory parts being compatible with older wrenches, it’s been my experience that new springs, jaws, rings are all compatible with even the oldest wrenches. And a lot of those parts are available on eBay, usually for a few bucks. (I have quite an...

    Vintage RIDGID Pipe Wrenches

Holy ****, I can’t believe I just found this thread, and kinda by accident. But this has been awesome reading (almost) every word of this 13 page, ten year old thread. Not sarcasm even though that sounded like it. I’ve acquired an extra interest in RIDGID tools in the past few years after using...

Time to break out the evaporust and paint stripper - Ridgid 24" pipe wrench restoration

I honestly don’t know if they have a methylene chloride free formula. Never had a reason to try it. Actually I didn’t know that was a thing til now. I just used the stuff that Home Depot had and looked like it would work. Has anyone tried CitriStrip? I’ve heard it works but never tried it.

Time to break out the evaporust and paint stripper - Ridgid 24" pipe wrench restoration

J0llycage, not sure who you were asking but for removing paint I use Klean Strip paint stripper or epoxy stripper. I use the gel, brush it on and let it work for a few minutes, usually starts to blister the paint and then I wire brush it off. Sometimes takes two or more coats. Especially RIDGID...

Sorry it’s been a while, haven’t gotten back to those ratchets in a while. Kids and life been keepin me busy. But as for the plating, I’ve been wanting to get to figuring that out, even bought a strip of nickel on eBay a while ago. But I don’t have the space or time at the moment. I’m thinkin...

Received the rusted ratchets Wednesday. They are pretty rough. I got my work cut out for me. They’ve been head first in an evaporust bath for a day or so. The T35 is moves freely now. The other one not so much, yet…….

I’ll jump on that grenade! I’ll take them both if you still got them. What the hell, why not. I could always add another side project to my bench.

Lobe on the right side broken off? Is that the flaw? How good are your metal working skills? I’ve had pretty good results brazing steel with SSF-6 56% silver brazing rod. It’s not real cheap but it looks amazing when it’s done and clean.

“Noble task” indeed. I was eyeballin that plane myself but Msgtsmithret got to it first. Probly for the better because I don’t know where I’d find the time right now to give that plane the love it deserves. So good luck and Godspeed MSGT!

CRS: Nice job on the cutters. Makes me wanna get on with finishing the others I’ve got, some that I started, some haven’t even touched yet. SHIFTLESS had a good question, you try them out yet? Did the pins come out easy, did you even need to remove them?

Yea I stumbled across one of those on eBay, then went down that rabbit hole finding out all about them. They’re certainly not rare. Those cutters are Saunders. The one with the grooves has a stamp on the cutter “arm” I was looking at it yesterday, hard to make out but I think it says D SAUNDERS...
