    Prentiss No. 20 Restoration Questions

All finished! Thanks to everyone for all the pointers along the way. Was able to get the original pin fixed up and back in service. I also chose not to paint the letters for now, to keep it in as original state as possible. May choose to paint them white later on -- they do look really nice...

    Prentiss No. 20 Restoration Questions

I'm going to first try to salvage the pin by tapping both pieces and threading a bolt to connect them, fill it, and see how that works. I ended up getting the swivel jaw free in about 15-20 minutes of light tapping, it had been sitting in PB Blaster for so long it was already loosened up pretty...

    Prentiss No. 20 Restoration Questions

Success! Well....sorta. I took everyone's advice -- made a homemade screw jack, heated and sprayed with PB Blaster nearly every day for the past week, tried to pound out, still nothing. Earlier today, I tried to drill a small hole through the top of the pin per KMScott's idea, then bigger and...

    Prentiss No. 20 Restoration Questions

I picked up this Prentiss No. 20 on Craigslist for $40 and about an hour drive round-trip. This vise was extremely dirty and just caked with grease and soot. The swivel base bolt was handmade and I could not remove it without destroying it, so I will be replacing with a new bolt and washer...

    Parker Vise Jaw Inserts

Good observation, I was thinking the same thing earlier after my initial post. Haven't yet seen the vise in person and have not yet pulled the trigger pending availability of replacement jaws, but something is definitely stamped after the "4" in 974.

    Parker Vise Jaw Inserts

Thanks, I will try reaching out to KMScott. BFBOB, adding a picture was no problem, just don't expect me to properly post a link :) Anyone have thoughts about the lack of pin holes for the inserts on this vise?

    Parker Vise Jaw Inserts

My first post here, have a question about the jaw inserts for a Parker 974 vise. Found this 974 vise without jaw inserts, and am looking into finding replacements. I know there was someone on eBay who used to make the inserts, but not sure if those are still available. Any ideas on where else...
