All finished! Thanks to everyone for all the pointers along the way. Was able to get the original pin fixed up and back in service. I also chose not to paint the letters for now, to keep it in as original state as possible. May choose to paint them white later on -- they do look really nice...

I picked up this Prentiss No. 20 on Craigslist for $40 and about an hour drive round-trip. This vise was extremely dirty and just caked with grease and soot. The swivel base bolt was handmade and I could not remove it without destroying it, so I will be replacing with a new bolt and washer...

Good observation, I was thinking the same thing earlier after my initial post. Haven't yet seen the vise in person and have not yet pulled the trigger pending availability of replacement jaws, but something is definitely stamped after the "4" in 974.

My first post here, have a question about the jaw inserts for a Parker 974 vise. Found this 974 vise without jaw inserts, and am looking into finding replacements. I know there was someone on eBay who used to make the inserts, but not sure if those are still available. Any ideas on where else...
