Just read through this thread, very cool shop! I'm considering either turning my 10x12 shed into a small workspace or building a 12x16 so this gives some great ideas. Do you notice any humidity issues in your shop without a mini split or is the vapor barrier/insulation doing a good enough job to...
Thanks everyone for your responses!
Wow, that sounds like a pain of a setup. And yeah, bigger is better if space allows.
These two points definitely are a primary focus for me at this point. My plan is to keep the 10x12 for all yard stuff etc, and to keep the one half of the basement as...
Thanks for the tip on wall space, only advantage to going 12x16 vs 12x20 is no building permit required under 200 sq ft but I’d rather have the extra space, not to mention at 20ft I could store a car in a pinch assuming I design most things to be on casters, folding etc. Great point about...
I’m looking for some feedback and advice from the guys with one car garages and/or small double garages. I’ve found plenty of inspiration regarding organization from these smaller spaces and there’s definitely an appeal to them! Nothing against the larger shops, I dream to be at that level one...
I think much of the decision comes down to what compromises you're willing to make. I regularly work on cars and currently have a house with no garage, so while I do get by a single bay sounds like a dream in comparison! With that said, only you know how much shop space you'd need to get by...
Just a quick point on choosing between Fusion 360 and SolidWorks Maker, you may want to give some thought into whether you’ll be primarily making individual parts or creating assemblies, and finding some tutorial videos on how they work in each software if you do plan on it.
I’ve used...
Glad you got to enjoy some family time and unwind from the hectic moving, selling old house etc - moments like that make the mayhem worth it!
Looking forward to seeing the shed build! I hear you on the rush to get things done before winter - tore into my front steps over a little water...
Small update today - tried to get everything set up in time to pour concrete before the rain but with the forecast and having a wedding to go to in the afternoon decided to hold off. I have the outside of the form set, and ran several rows of rebar into the foundation wall and tied to horizontal...
Got to work early today, starting with removing the rest of the brick to fully expose the block walls.
As it turns out, the sideways concrete block saga was not over. I started removing the concrete where the old stairs ended; underneath was a deep void and several layers of block oriented...
Good points; I think the slab would give me more flexibility, whereas the sonotube is appealing because it's less concrete work and a little more manageable for someone with limited experience with concrete. I'll definitely give it some thought, come tomorrow I'll be making a decision one way or...
That looks like Sussex County, Delaware - I'm in North NJ, I think here our frost depth is 36" but I'm almost certain that block wall was deeper than that. Good idea with the rebar, I'll give that a try after work to confirm depth.
Thanks also for the photos of your previous shop, looks like...
