Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

This is my only Plomb tool. A 3/8' drive 3/4" flex socket. Bought used around 1960. Saw a lot of use running down cylinder head bolts with a speed handle.

"That's how they are described in the manufacturers' catalogs." Didn't realize that. Apologies.

The Vintage New Britain and Associated Thread!

Just my ocd but I wish we would stop referring to wrench openings as milled openings when nearly every wrench made for many years was broached. The only milled openings I have ever seen were my 1956 SK wrenches. It is an easy check. If the machining marks are parallel to each other and...

SHOW OFF YOUR VINTAGE METAL CANS AND CONTAINERS!! oil, gas, ointments, and just cans

The interesting thing about 3 in 1 oil, one of my college professors taught an evening class in small electric motors for housewives and every time someone brought in a motor with dry and caked up bearings it had been faithfully oiled with 3 in 1. Just saying.

    Model T tools

I was told this was a Model T jack. The marking on the handle is "00 perfection " and made by Walker.

Ok, can't find that little screw that holds your vintage ratchet together? I have the solution.

For years I repaired clocks. The clock repair supply houses have a large variety of small screws in small quantities. I use Timesavers in Scottsdale Arizona.

The Ancient and Independent Order of Oddfellows (Adjustables, that is...)

I purchased some machinists tools from Hyperkitten Tool Company. While looking thru his website I saw these wrenches. If anyone is into old adjustables two for $15.00 plus shipping seemed like a bargain. Just thought I would mention them here.

    Heller Bearing Scraper.

"Did he ever mention the tolerances on them?" No, but they are available at several web sites and they are very small. For precision bearings used in machine spindles they are less than .0001". The statement was an absolute and the relative accuracy is extremely small, but it is there. A good...

    Heller Bearing Scraper.

"The roller bearings were sold as easier to service, babbitt was for higher precision. Any truth to that?" My father was a lifer at the Pratt & Whitney co in West Hartford Ct. and he always said the same thing. All ball or roller bearings have tolerances which equate to errors. A bearing with a...

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

"Looks like 1949 or thereabouts. I don’t have one of those" I have a pre 1940 I posted earlier. Easy to spot. The older box does not have the diamonds around the draw pulls

Is this Craftsman 12.5" DP Taper salvageable

If you are resigned to replacing it anyway I would try this. Put it under power and use a mill file to dress out the roughness. Then mark two stripes with a grease pencil up the taper. Then rub the chuck on the taper and file the high bands where the pencil is rubbed off. Continue until you get...

Lets make an all vintage Snap-on tool picture thread!

"I'm thinking about removing the handles. Anyone have a good source for the rivets?" When I redid a powrcraft box a few years ago I used stainless steel button head hex socket screws and they were very presentable.
