How to plumb in a backup hot water heater?

So my setup is a little different. I installed the 50 gal electric heater shortly after we moved in, as the house had coal heat / hot water and I didn't want to tend that setup all summer. Not too long after I decided I didn't want to tend the coal boiler ever and replaced with a propane...

    Need a water filter wrench

I have a similar GE filter setup that I use the plastic wrench that came with it to change, it seems to work well. I find the housing very difficult to remove if I don't relieve the pressure first.

Would you hire a contractor only with a handshake?

Your friend would probably benefit from a written scope and contract, mostly so that he has the right expectations of the work, not because the team doing the work is shady. In different circumstances, well if you can't trust the other person's handshake what makes you think that you can trust...

I looked up the specs. and that is an impressive machine! Is this replacing the last new(ish) spreader? Thank you for keeping the updates coming, always interesting to see what goes on in your world day to day.

Can you have an outlet on the circuit with hardwire device

Interesting thought exercise. Disclaimer: I'm not an electrician, or an electrical engineer, and hold no license. I believe the answer in general is yes, you can have an outlet on the same circuit. However, in your case...no based on calculated and permissible loads on branch circuits. Since...

Suggestions to make shear bolts better

How deep a groove? I would be tempted to try a tubing cutter on the bolts. This may destroy the cutting wheel on the tool.

    Generator DPE (displaced phase excitation)

I don't really have the physics to explain it, but this is a good start. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excitation_(magnetic)

    Wire numbering systems?

AS-i is alright, but has less capability than most other bus protocols. I've used it a lot for valves and proximity switches, but it is more or less obsolete technology.

    Wire numbering systems?

As long as both ends of the wire have the same label I'm fine. Having more than one label is cool too...its nice to know that "124532233-a17-niner-gamma" goes to that LAHH-02 and it's 120 VAC not 24 VDC despite the wire color. Loop diagrams are amazing when you can find the right one. Finding...

    Kids and my tools!!!

Still not sure why we're assuming the neighbor boy bent them? Ask the kid, maybe he bent them and you weren't there for him to tell. Maybe he didn't notice. Maybe he forgot. Maybe someone else bent them. I'm not going to suggest you lock up things at your own house, but if you're that upset...

Above 1200 Sq/FT The Salvage Garage

Strouty, I hope you guys made it through the storm ok. Out of curiosity, what does a storm like this do to your tower maintenance schedule?

Nice! Concrete is always fascinating. You see the "stone" floor delivered in liquid form by a truck and molded into place by a knowledgeable team.

    Help removing wire From Conduit

Why would you post that after being told multiple times it was wrong? Not sure that makes you a badass. It was mentioned the shielded cable was for the garage door opener? Can you test voltage on it, specifically if it is AC or DC. If it was AC it wouldn't bother me too much being in the same...

    Portable Generator Question

Based on the nameplate shown your generator is capable of 21.9 A at 240 VAC, so the 30 A outlet is appropriate. The 43.8 A is at 120 VAC. P = I*V so the 5250 Running Watts = 43.75 A at 120 VAC or 21.875 at 240 VAC.

    50A Generator Interlock Switch Wiring

You could switch the breaker out for a 40 A one. They're reasonably priced if you have a still in production panel. A picture would be very helpful for the experts to give a recommendation.
