I'm semi retired but getting ready to start up a powder coat and medal fab shop. This has been a passion of mine for over 20 years. I had been looking for something to carry us through the off season months because my main business, (boat sales and repair) was so seasonal here in VA.
I started buying tools and equipment for this venture when times were good and but for some reason I never could put my plan in action for one reason or another. For awhile it looked like finally things were coming together. We moved the business into a larger more secure shop that had several building and one was just perfect for the fab shop. Right after we moved 9/11 happened then the banking scandal problems took a lot of money out of the pockets of so many people and this really put a hurt on the recreation industry, especially the entry level type boaters that we relied on heavily to keep us going. For awhile it looked like things were going to get better but the political change in congress in the midterm elections in 07' made problem times worse and things really tanked so I pulled the plug on my life's work and closed shop.
The end of that chapter started a whole new out look on life and decided to take what I had left and build a shop at my home with the hopes of some day being able to get the fab shop going and spending the rest of my life doing something I always loved and hopefully making a few bucks in the meantime.
I'm still working on my shop which is expanding all the time and my outlook on life gets brighter every day.
