CTA Tools - Made in the USA.. or not

I contacted Lang Tools since they were also recommended as a good US tool supplier in the old garage journal posts, and they had a similar response. “Made in the US and most components are US made.” Still waiting on a response from GSI.

I agree there is some value there.. but no where close to enough to justify it.

CTA Tools - Made in the USA.. or not

I’m almost wondering if it’s possible to find completely US made test sets anymore. It seems like most of the vendors who offered US sets ten years ago no longer are.

CTA Tools - Made in the USA.. or not

I recently decided to upgrade all of my diagnostic gauges from random import sets to all US made. I did some reading on old garage journal posts and decided to go with CTA Tools. Each gauge kit I purchased stated “made in the USA”, and the ad photos clearly showed US marked gauges. I purchased...

Interested in finding an old floor jack

I'm really interested in finding a 1940s or 1950s floor jack to add to my vintage shop tools. I think the Blackhawk S4 is my favorite one, but am not set on a model. Would just prefer to find something in the 3-4 ton range. Are there any models that are advisable to stay away from due to...

    Craftsman 5162

Good to know, thanks for checking! I'll have to figure out a way to make a sleeve then, I don't have a lathe unfortunately.

    Craftsman 5162

Thanks Maui, I appreciate you checking! Looks like a 7/8-14 thread pitch. The shoulder looks like it will need to be about 3/4" tall and 1 1/4" O.D. It seems odd to me that so many vises have this problem. I can't imagine the center bolts shearing, so why are so many old vises missing them?

    Craftsman 5162

I recently picked up a Craftsman 5162 (Rock Island 573) bench vise and it is missing the centering bolt for the swivel base. Does anyone reproduce these or know of an aftermarket that will fit?

Looking for a Rock Island 573 or Craftsman 5162 swivel base center bolt.

    Shure Service Desk

The version that has shown up on this forum is the later design that Shure offered. These are likely late 60s and into the 70s. The countertop is the main difference from the early version that I’m looking for.

Looks really nice! A ton of paint work went into that. I considered doing a themed restoration on my bench, but nearly 99% of the period photos listed on Damon Crowe’s website show the merchandisers being used in their factory applied paint schemes, so that’s what I did with mine.
