Moving into metal building shop. The insulation is filthy but intact. Cleaning?

So figured I'd give an update to this one for anyone searching in the future. Ended up cleaning and painting everything. Was a lot of time on my end but happy with the outcome. Went around with shop vac to pull all the loose dust and cobwebs down. Was 3 bags worth of dust doing that. Then...

Moving into metal building shop. The insulation is filthy but intact. Cleaning?

Yeah I suppose I left some details out of it. It's being purchased by a friend of mine, I will be leasing this section of the shop for automotive repair. So it doesn't need to be squeaky clean, but I need to make this space presentable from a retail perspective. We have 15+ years of working...

Moving into metal building shop. The insulation is filthy but intact. Cleaning?

Shop is 40x60, was welding shop and then a disposal company. I don't know if I can wash the it with water because it's all basically fiberglass insulation.

Moving into metal building shop. The insulation is filthy but intact. Cleaning?

It's even worse in person, phone makes things nicer than they are. Going to be moving into this shop soon and I really want to make this place presentable. What options do I have to clean or brighten up the insulation above the walls. The ceiling is even worse that you can't see in the photo...

The ultimate tool box garage journal style

Buddy of mine bought an old tool truck and gutted it for his band's equipment. I bought all the mag rails off him. Don't know why I need 40 mag rails but I have them all over the place now.

    Limited Edition Tools

I would not pay extra for a limited edition anything, new or old. Although I did consider snap on pearl hard handle screwdriver set. Usually the stuff that ends up being valuable is the regular stuff that no one makes anymore and every one got rid of long ago. Look at OG monopoly and square...

Clamp meters and leads for parasitic draw testing

Look up using a shunt resistor for parasitic draw. You can use a 1 ohm resistor in series at the battery. And by measuring the voltage drop across it will show your current flow. I add a automotive fuse holder to it too. It's the same method that your multimeter uses internally. Very accurate...

Automatic wire strippers for stranded (primary) wire? School me

I've had a few over the years that I've had mixed feelings about. The tool aid ones are probably my favorite. Too many times they pull strands of wire out or miss pulling the wire coating off. After cutting and trying again I kind of always end up back at a basic pair of wire strippers. For...

Do we have a favorite grease gun?

I have a Milwaukee grease gun, it works well and I like it. But I like to keep the manual pumpers around too. But It seems I keep replacing them, leaking or not pumping or the ends get messed up. Usually I just grab them at the hardware or parts store. Does anyone make a premium grease gun? I...

What would be in your packout mechanics toolset? Discussing the $4000 Milwaukee offering

I put together a set kind of like that for some mobile work. It's mostly gear wrench and sunex and second hand stuff so if it got stolen from the truck I wouldn't cry too hard.

    Workbench Top Material???

I do mostly mechanical repair. My bench is a sheet of 1/4" steel. This bench is heavy duty. I've put complete powertrains on it when I lower them out of the cars. Can weld brackets to it to keep things from moving. Give it a touch up with a sanding disk and good as new. I keep a couple sheets...

Who has a gravel driveway/road that they maintain?

I live by a lake and on what we call Class IV road. Unmaintained State road. I also hate using chemicals in the name of trying to preserve the lake quality. The state, towns and association have spend a lot to improve it here. For most of the road what I found that works is having a bunch of...

Is diesel the best degreaser? and if the answer is no, why do you like being wrong?

I like superclean for a water based degreaser. For petroleum I use the PSC 1000 from tractor supply. Another one that's probably not a degreaser but does work pretty good is ATF. Every time I do transmission work my tools end up very clean and lubricated.

    Which 4/5 pin relay tester?

Years ago I thought I wanted relay testers. But I rarely used them. I much prefer testing the circuit under load or with tests lights. I used them so little I pretty much gave them away. Now a days I make all my testers with banana jacks and the aes kit to adapt to anything I could dream up...

    Battery charger

I have the clore automatic charger which is great for trickle charging batteries. Especially overnight so that it's ready for the morning. I also use the topdon tornado charger. It's got a bunch of features like power supply for programming functions. It will also bring back some damaged...
