Well I actually had the house inspected today and it unfortunately has some other serious issues, so the hunt continues. I guess I won't be the one to make the decision to leave it or keep it. Thanks for all the help guys.

So I've been looking at houses lately and the last one had this weird truss in the garage. The house was built in '65, was this common back then? Has anyone ever replaced it with a steel beam or put a post up to handle the load? Is it best just to leave it be? :headscrat
