Garage Door Noise - LiftMaster Jack Screw or Belt Drive

I had a Chamberlain 3/4H belt drive in my old house that replaced a chamberlain chain drive. The garage was immediately below the master bedroom and my wife would always would wake me up when she was coming/going when I was working an opposite shift. An isolation kit between the motor and the...

New garage plans - any advice?

Thanks Larry! I agree on the pantry doors and will make the change. I am still torn on the entire bathroom, I really dont like how it has turned out. I was also tempted to put the washer and dryer off the bath instead of the kitchen, but got talked out of it. A dumb waiter is a great idea, not...

New garage plans - any advice?

I agree and that has been a big debate for myself. High ceilings vs overall building height, vs upstairs ceiling height, etc. Just one of my many trade offs.

New garage plans - any advice?

All, we made some changes to this and I wanted to get some more feedback. I took the dormer off the back of the building and gave myself a straight wall up the back. I think it will be cheaper and easier to build, but not sure if my HOA will allow it. Time will tell on that one. Added 8 foot...

New garage plans - any advice?

All, thanks for all the input, I submitted changes and will have updates this week. A couple of notes: We live in coastal South Carolina, steps are a fact of life here. Even the main house has a full flight of steps going to the front door or coming from the garage. I had already planned on a...

New garage plans - any advice?

Thanks for the input Boiler! The kitchen layout has bothered me and that is going to be reworked. I also caught the linen closet missing the door, it had a door the last rev, not sure what happened. The primary reason for going interior stairs was to support a future chair lift on the stairs...

New garage plans - any advice?

So, looking to build a 26x40 garage with a full apartment above. The plan is to have the parents live above during the winter months when they play the snowbird game. I have been working with a friend who is an architect and we have come up with the following plans. These are my second or 3rd...

I'm in need of a Retachable cord reel

The attic install looks awesome, filing that idea away for later.

    Garage door shaking/bouncing when closing

Thanks for all the responses and I will run through them today. The garage door is a belt drive with extension springs. I had already thought about replacing the springs because they look heavily worn. Can I switch to torsion springs?

    Garage door shaking/bouncing when closing

All, First real post here, but I thought this was a good place to ask the question. Bought a house this past spring and one of my pet peeves are the garage doors. One of them is nonfunctional and requires a drive replacement, the other bounces and shakes when the door closes. All the rollers...

Looking for ideas to store tires in garage

8! I don't have enough wall space for 8. I like the tote idea though. Might have to steal it.

Looking for ideas to store tires in garage

I have one of these and really like it. $45 on amazon shipped and it folds close to the wall when not in use. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058BMNVU/?tag=atomicindus08-20

    DIY 26'x40' detached build

Great advice. I was already planning on running conduit up through the slab for power and plan on running rough plumbing so I can finish water/sewer later. Concrete will be a challenge. I will be asking quotes and checking references/BBB, but it can still be a pain in the ****.
