Wiring brand new shop, 120 vs 240 throughout?

Thank you Cruzan, This is exactly the kind of advice I have been searching for in regards to wood working machine amperage capacities/needs. In due time I will have to make the decision to run conduit, which I can do in the future, or make up my mind on layout and go behind the walls as I would...

Wiring brand new shop, 120 vs 240 throughout?

Thank you for the input! In stream with your line of thought, I guess I would throw out a question to all the wood workers: what are your big machines drawing amperage-wise? I'm not starting a factory lol. But a midsize cabinet saw, joiner, planer, and dust system especially, are all in my...

Wiring brand new shop, 120 vs 240 throughout?

Thank you for the compliment! This is all well under way. I have been installing the PT bottom plated for the interior walls today, actually. I'm not necessarily fast, but I do commit and strive for accuracy. Thank you for another vote towards the surface wiring idea option.

Wiring brand new shop, 120 vs 240 throughout?

If I do choose to run the 240 lines behind the walls, this is what I have come up with. Any positive criticism appreciated. Thanks again to everyone for their input.

Wiring brand new shop, 120 vs 240 throughout?

I like this idea aside from the appearance of it. However, if I wire for all my 120 needs on the interior and then ran conduit as needed for 240, it could be a good compromise vs. trying to plan for what I do not necessarily know for the future. Thank you for this idea. I will definately...

Wiring brand new shop, 120 vs 240 throughout?

I have to have a pre-inspection and after hook up inspection, i.e., when it's closed in. Not really any room for leeway. But that's fine. I'm looking for advice on what to do from people who have setup shop and did something, or wished they had done something, while they were in the wiring...

Wiring brand new shop, 120 vs 240 throughout?

This is a 30x38 detached shop, with a 200amp supply line direct to the shop, with a 100amp feeder off to the house, which is a sub panel off the 200 and already inside the house. The main cable is already buried and ready for the switch, but I need to wire the shop before I can have it inspected...

Wiring brand new shop, 120 vs 240 throughout?

Hi Mike, Thank you for the reply. I updated my location (I believe) as well. From your reply, I am taking it that it may be possible to wire circuits with regular 3 wire, as independent breakers, and switch to 240 if necessary? Any Canadians around know if this will work here? It's going...

Wiring brand new shop, 120 vs 240 throughout?

I'm wiring my new shop (with certified help..the electrical type, not the kind I actually need :P ). I don't have any 240v equipment...yet. But now would be the time to make that decision to run those wires before things are insulated and closed up. I was going to run a couple lines for a...

    Hello

Hi Everyone, Been browsing for about half a year, figured it's time to actually sign up so I can click on the pictures to see them bigger! Just in the process of finishing building a 30x38x10 high, monolithic slab on grade shop. Roof is on, windows and doors are in. I'll start a post...
