Mountain Garage using Logs and Heavy Timber

Thank you for the note. Yes lots of great hiking trails around here too. We live about 1/2 mile as a crow flies to Smokey Mountain National Park. This is the SE end of the park near the Cataloochee Valley. Every once in a while we see a family or two of elk in a nearby field when we drive to...

Mountain Garage using Logs and Heavy Timber

Been awhile since I posted the progress. The exterior of the garage is complete less a few details. Metal roofing installed in 1-1/2 days this week. It's a new finish and color I had never seen before. It's a textured deep red. I think it matches the finish of Sikkens Butternut stain on the...

    What Ceiling Height?

If you are planning to install a lift the minimum for a full height lift would be an 11' clear height. 12' would be better. Respecting costs more wall height is cheap when compared with foundation, floor area and roofing sf costs. However garage doors pricing jumps when you choose other than...

Advise on a Twin Busch 4 post lift

I just looked a little closer at the Twin Busch 4 post. One thing I didn't notice before is the lift height. Seems a little short w/ the 9920 only reaching 72" under the ramps. Maybe I missed something but for my needs I want more headroom under a lift. For car storage this would be fine. But...

Advise on a Twin Busch 4 post lift

I agree those are very competitive prices for their lifts. I also glanced at their tool cabinets and they too have good pricing. Thanks for the lead on Twin Busch. I had never heard of them before. When I get my garage to the "fit out" stage they will definitely be considered for both lift and...

Mountain Garage using Logs and Heavy Timber

Here is a picture of the waterfall behind our house. Taken this morning after overnight rain and some lingering fog.

Mountain Garage using Logs and Heavy Timber

The house is at the other end of the property about 1/4 mile away. We built the house at the base of the waterfall. However I didn't want to use logs due to the significant humidity that could create more mold conditions. Instead I used cement board siding and Azec trim and minimal exposed wood...

Mountain Garage using Logs and Heavy Timber

Just an update on the progress. The roofing is now "dried in". The make-up of the roof is tongue and grove 1x8 decking covered with platinum self adhesive roof underlayment. On top are two layers of foam panels...5-1/2" + 3-1/2" w/ OSB sheathing joint-staggered for a total of 9" of insulation...

    Anyone familiar w/ Leggari?

I have started a thread in the General Garage Discussion titled Mountain Garage using Logs and Heavy Timbers. To keep progress and decisions made in one place I will limit my updates and posts to that thread rather than specialized topics. I do need to get better at taking pictures and...

    Footing/Stem Wall detail ?

Where do you live? That will affect footing and stemwall design. In addition each municipality is different with respect to how they review plans and do inspections. While I never like to generalize in my 30+ years of experience many engineers over-design and cost you money not only for the...

Mountain Garage using Logs and Heavy Timber

There is a moisture barrier under the slab. In addition I am installing a "3 head" Daikin mini-split system for temperature and humidity control. Here in the mountains winter humidity is managed by simple heating. In summer I will run one of the head units just to keep down the humidity. The...

    Anyone familiar w/ Leggari?

Not sure why some of my pics are displayed and others as attachments. I am new to Garage Journal and obviously have not learned the "ins and outs" of posting.

    Anyone familiar w/ Leggari?

Thanks for those that provided input concerning garage flooring finishes. In the end I decided to stick with what I know.....porcelain tile. No preparation of the concrete needed e.g. grinding or shot blasting....that saves $$ and time. And no worries about durability or resistance to chemicals...
