    Footings for an apron?

Thanks, that's what I thought. My concrete guys who are also going to form the form the apron said not to worry about it. We don't get much of a frost heave here but occasionally we'll have a couple of weeks in the low twenties in the mornings. It never reaches below an inch or so of top soil. I...

    Footings for an apron?

Hey there fine folks, I'm pouring my pad in a few weeks and I have a question. The pad will extend from the garage entrance four feet in the the front with a slight slope to it. Do I need to dig an extended footer for the front edge of the pad as it adjoins a gravel drive? The pad will be...

    Frees On Line Design Program

Hey Folks, Does anyone know of an easy to use drafting program I can use to draw plans and elevations? I drew all my plans out for my building permit but a buddy of mine really likes my garage/shop and he wants me to do the same for him. In return he gave me a bunch of equipment he was getting...

    Comparing Two Different Lifts

Hey Guys & Gals, Which is the better 2-post lift for car restoration work, Dannmar D-10/CX 2-Post Car Lift or BendPak XPR-10A Asymmetrical 2 Post Car Lift in your experience? I'm working on sports cars that weigh less than 2500 lbs. I respect the forum members' opinions and Garage Equipment...

    15 AMP circuits & lighting

Hey Bill, I'm in Fairview. I used to live in AVL until it really started to get pricey (tax-wise). I know 5000K is daylight and 4500 is very blue/white, but I looked at them in Lowes and you can't stare at them. They'll blind you. They are for a 24 x 28 garage that I'll use for working on my...

    15 AMP circuits & lighting

Not cans. 4' with two flourescent style strips per unit. Just like T5s but with LEDs and brighter. 4200 Lumens and only 40 Watts per unit. Sorry, I was reading specs off of another box. This is the unit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181168802444

    15 AMP circuits & lighting

Hey folks, If my calculations are correct I can safely put up to 30 54Watt LED fixtures on a 15AMP circuit. Does this compute with you folks? NCtim

    Perfect Garage Lighting -DIY

Okay, I'll bite. I'm building a 24 x 28 garage to work on my sports cars. One bay has a lift, the other is used to park the wife's car when I'm not using it. 10' ceiling. I'm building engines and doing bodywork, etc. How many T5HO, 120-277 Universals would you recommend? Tim

    Two-Post Car Lift Footings

So, wssix99, You're saying that I what I generally understand about floating slabs is incorrect? I've got a fellow car nut friend that went to install his two post lift and all the anchors pulled out of his 4" slab. He had to cut and dig 8" footings under the posts and repair his slab. What...

    Two-Post Car Lift Footings

Thanks, everyone! I read all your replies and I have a plan! FWIW, my slab is sitting on decaying granite/clay. Very stable substrate. I had to jackhammer out half my footings the clay is so hard. I built my house in the same stuff and it hasn't moved in 30 years. I think I'll still go with a 2'...

    Two-Post Car Lift Footings

I'm leaning towards the BendPac as my wife's mechanic uses them and recommended to her. If I pour an 8" bond beam at 11'-6" I think I'll be good as my cars have 50/50 weight distribution.
