Added a few more details to the tool board. I grew up in Dinuba, CA and a friend worked at the Chevrolet dealership. He cleaned out the attic when it closed and got some of the old dealership emblems. I thought this was a good spot for one.
These are for 1930's to 1950's Gemmer steering boxes. They were used by Ford, Mopar, Nash, Hudson, etc and all used the same shim gaskets. These shim gaskets adjust bearing preload and each steering box uses 5-6 gaskets.
I manufacture a new steering box for 32-34 Fords based on this design as...
Thanks. I did the metal pegboard for a few reasons. Mainly to cover up part of the 6" pipe column, but to also add some more tool storage space in the center over the column, and to add some red to help tie in with the cabinet. And lastly, it will wipe down easier when it gets dirty and...
I started organizing drawers with steering box parts. The "extra gasket" drawer in my old box was quite a mess
So I made some gasket organizers out of Delrin rod screwed to some aluminum plate
My daughter was kind enough to sort through and organize them for me
More drawers getting...

I've needed to upgrade my steering box assembly bench for a while. I needed much more storage for parts, as I'm buying larger quantities and stocking more, plus I wanted a bigger bench. I bought one of the 10' 25 drawer import tool benches, as shown in the 2nd Pic. After looking at it for a...
Thanks everyone. Building and outfitting my shop has been and will be a lifelong adventure. I enjoy building things in my shop, but the shop build is just as important!
I remember a quote from the owner of one of the woodworking hobby shops featured in The Workshop Book. If you know the...
Next project is to replace 3 random cabinets along this wall...
With this tool bench
I am having a 14 gauge stainless top made for it, similar to what I put on my tool box bench. More cabinets to clean out...but it will be much better when done. I keep attacking this 30 year accumulation...
We've had rain for the last week or so, but today was sunny so it was a good time to move the Powermatic out and the DoAll in.
I had to play chess in the machine shop to make room. The Sunnen hone had to move to where a shelf was, the shelf had to go where a tool cart was, the tool cart had to...
