    The VISES of Garage Journal

Prentiss swivel base release Recently picked up a prentiss vice with some problems. The bar has a large chunk missing and one of the mounting ears on the base was broken and crudely welded back on. As a result, there really isn’t any collector value so I plan on just making it serviceable and...

    Unknown IR impact gun

We picked up a used impact. It works well. However, as you can see, the stickers are missing. How can I determine the exact model number? We pulled it apart hopeing that we would find an internal part number to cross reference with the IR parts breakdowns but couldn't find anything.

Need an impact gun for a young car mechanic

Thanks for all the inputs. We have ordered an IR 2135 based on the feedback we have received here.

Need an impact gun for a young car mechanic

Thanks for all of the inputs. I think I'm going with one of the 2 IR options that I've found. Really can't pass up the price for a gun that will obviously do the job for years to come. Probably leaning towards the 2131 although I'm not happy that its the version with the 2 inch extended anvil...

Need an impact gun for a young car mechanic

My son has just started his new career as a mechanic. Of course, as the new guy/trainee, he gets most of the tire work. He is using the shop gun now. I would like to get him a good impact to get him started off right. I'm pretty much sold on the IR brand from the reviews I've read. With...

The Unofficial Vise Parts Swap Thread.

You may have seen the Parker 976 that i posted in the "Vises" thread. It had the slide welded up. During the cleanup, I can see that it is beginning to crack again. Let me know if you need any parts. It is the later Parker (Union manufacturing). Everything cleaned up quite well the only bad...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Last year, I needed a new vise and discovered Garage Journal while researching what vise might be best for me. As such, I now blame all of you for my current sickness :). I now have 4 vintage vises and am eyeing a fifth that I might be able to pick up on Friday. I have bought, refurbished...

Anyone know anything about a "rex" vise?

I haven't seen it in person yet. The seller claims it has 4 inch jaws and weighs about 50 pounds. He has been told by someone that he could get $100. I'm thinking that is a bit much for an unknown brand name.

Anyone know anything about a "rex" vise?

Local vise for sale locally. I've never heard of one and an internet search really hasn't turned up anything. He says it's pre-war. Any insights concerning origin and value? No markings except "rex".

    Athol 623 1/2 vise parts

Can anyone point me in the right direction to source some parts for the Athol vise? I came across the vise today and couldn't pass up the $20 price tag. Other than the many years of dirt, it looks like it received little, if any use. The jaws are almost perfect. However, the swivel base...

    Charles Parker 973 vice

Okay, here are 2 photos of my parker 973 without a patent date and with "U.S.A". As a comparison, I've also attached a photo I found online of a 973 with a patent date. Still trying to figure out the significance. Is it an early build or later one?

    Charles Parker 973 vice

Hello everyone, first time poster here. I've searched and read many posts here on the Parker vices. In fact, the "Everything you need to know about bench vices" post by mjoezfow is what turned me towards the parker vises in the first place. I recently purchased a 973 for $40 and have been...
