    Truss Design

To the detractors of this thread:"Why would you do this, it leaves you open to liability?" Wow, ... since when is it wrong to share knowledge? and to go so far as to imply the threat of litigation for doing so is unconscionable. Unfortunately, Lawyers and lawsuits go hand in hand. I look at...

    Tool Theft

In general, I trust my fellow mechanics/employees until I find out there is a thief on board. I don't hire on at shops that have high turn-over, so we all know each other to a point. It is a given; anybody caught stealing is going to get pounded for that kind of behavior. Most of my employment...

I've maybe come up with a variation on the ISO container? As a long time fabricator and relatively recent convert to RV service tech, I have thought about trading the ISO's for some sort of RV? I've long been a fan of Airstream trailers because of their construction/design. However, Airstream...

    Adverse Welding conditions

Strip mine back in the late '70's. Winter of '80, -38 below 0, 40 MPH wind @ 8000 ft. Couldn't shut down equipment ran 24/7. Cracked shovel on the electric 'Walking Drag-line' Pre-heat/post-heat went 24/7 for a week. Air-arc out the crack and run propane burners on the underside of the shovel...

    Does it get easier?

Think of this as 'continuing education', you never stop learning if you have a desire to 'know'. Building stuff, fixing stuff it's all just a part of becoming self-sufficient. How self-sufficient you become is up to you.

Warm Deal: RapidAir 3/4in. MaxLine Compressed Air Piping System Master Kit $134.99

The reason 'Sharpe' has designed their air system with a bigger trunk line with the feeds pointed up? Water will settle to the low point of the trunk line. With the trunk line on a declining angle with a vertical down drain at the end, again the 'Sharpe' system plays to the natural tendencies of...

Warm Deal: RapidAir 3/4in. MaxLine Compressed Air Piping System Master Kit $134.99

Ok, just consider for a second what size compressor you have and what you expect your air system to do for you! It will also depend upon your location/weather conditions. This would be 'adequate' for a mechanic's shop or, for wood working tools like staplers and nail-guns. These are...

    Quncy 5hp 80 gal...2 stage-230 V with or with-out mag sarter?

The addition of a mag-starter would be a plus in cold weather. As the oil thickens the mechanical resistance grows. The mag-starter, even if it is a cheap one, should encourage your 5hp compressor to start easier.

My condolences for anyone who has to contend with weather/working conditions like these! Lol To continue, as was advised by GJ contributors, I have begun looking at the option of a fabric covered tubing structure such as supplied by 'Bigtop', 'Clearspan', and 'Farmtek'. Got my first lead on...

Thanks for the insight and suggestions. I do realize where I live and the situation I am in is not the 'norm' for most people. At this point, I am just gathering information so that I can make an informed decision. Thank you for your input.

The lattice is designed to keep out cats, skunks/possums and other animals of that size. I think it would also dissuade squirrels from moving in under a mobile home. Two leggeds trying to get under a mobile home, here that is dissuaded via a more aggressive approach and in Texas would be...

Since I currently live full-time in an 8' wide motor home with all of the furniture and stuff you normally find in a motor home, working out of a 7' wide container with twin 16' wide overhead doors installed down the inside wall facing the deck and then slab, I fail to see this as confining...

The sonotube idea was covered in previous posts, as deck pier stabilizers (rock filled instead of concrete) similar idea just different environment. Schools of thought vary. Zoning/building standards have multiple views and will endorse either system if you can carry a convincing argument. Yes...
