    Caulk. Too easy.

Large crack hidden under shelf in garage

I'm starting to think that too. This morning I check the crack after filling with sand yesterday, and the sand was wet. I definitely didn't rain last night, but there are two sprinklers on the other side of the wall on the right of the picture--I'll be somehow water is flowing from them under...

Large crack hidden under shelf in garage

Thanks for the quick repair job. I filled in the crack yesterday with 30 mesh sand--I was amazed at how much sand found its way down there. I'll seal it with waterproof, self-leveling caulk and put that shelf back. Thanks for all the advice, and of course the humor.

Large crack hidden under shelf in garage

That is a definite possibility. The house was built in '87 and Loma Prieta was in '89... The 4.25" was the depth inside the crack at its largest width.

Large crack hidden under shelf in garage

I'm not sure. Just bought the house and we don't get much rain in the summer here in the Central Valley.

Large crack hidden under shelf in garage

Yes, an "outside" corner of the garage. The floating slab is cracked, but the footing upon which the studs sit is fully intact. I should have the inspector out again to take a look. Thanks.

Large crack hidden under shelf in garage

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to fill it near the top with sand, and put some self-leveling filler at the top. Can I use regular all purpose sand, or do I need to get any special kind?

This was seriously my first thought. 1. Move shelf back. 2. Congratulate self on job well done. 3. Crack open a cool one.

Large crack hidden under shelf in garage

Bought my house a little over a month ago, and was happy to learn that the previous owner left behind two heavy duty shelves in the garage. BUT, I recently moved the one in the corner by the garage door, and found a real beauty of a crack under it. I was able to measure the depth at the left...

Is it necessary to fill these expansion joints in the concrete?

I'm curious about this as well. My expansion joints look the same, but I don't want to fill them in all the way before putting down a coating system (I actually want the channel for water, etc after my project is done). I was thinking either silicone or standard caulk just at the bottom of...

    Epoxy-Coat my Winter Application

This looks great. I look forward to reading about your project. I notice you have a window--did you decide on a urethane top coat to prevent the epoxy from yellowing? I'm have a similar setup in the garage and am curious!

Acrylic Sealers: Acryliseal 3501 vs Legacy 6415

That makes sense. What has impressed me most about the suppliers on this forum are how honest they are about their products versus other suppliers' products. I'll check out the spec sheets and form an opinion...

Acrylic Sealers: Acryliseal 3501 vs Legacy 6415

That is definitely a common comment on this forum! It would be interesting to hear from Legacy about the merits of 6415 vs Acryliseal.

Acrylic Sealers: Acryliseal 3501 vs Legacy 6415

I'm looking for opinions to help me choose an acrylic sealer for my 500 sqft residential garage project. My garage will mainly be used for light duty projects (mostly involving sawdust & paint), to park a car, and for the occasion ping pong tourney. The last owner put down a crappy (and now...
