About a year ago I painted a cabinet for the garage with rustoleum tint - able cabinet paint. I painted directly over laminate and only prepped by scuffing with a 600 sanding disc.
A year later the stuff still looks new. It's scrubbable and my god is it hard... I have dropped a 5 lb hammer...
I'm not sure it would be worth the investment...
I'm 28 and I love tools, but most guys my age have no interest in doing anything with their hands other than snap chatting.
Also, I think being a "gamer" and a craftsman are very mutually exclusive.
I think that pipe for a frame would be fine, but the trailer can only be as strong as your welds.
From a cost stand point you would likely be better served to buy a trailer, but I'm all for fabricating if you have the time and resources :)

I just picket up the harbor freight mini mill and "precision" 7x10 lathe for $150 used. Both work and all mechanisms slide smooth.
I'm not new to fabrication, but I've done nothing in regard metal turning. I'm trying to figure out what tooling I need to get some basic experiance...
All of your welds look too cold to me... Some look good but with a mig welder you should reduce your feed and increase power.
The welds that look dirty are because of your gas feed. Either you have it set too low or you need to hold the welder closer to perpandicular.
