    Monarch/Prentiss Vise History

Hey guys. I'm looking for more info on Monarch vises. This is what I have so far: The Monarch line was made by Prentiss. Prentiss Vise Co was created by Mason Prentiss of White Creek, NY. He lived from 1872 to 1948. He worked as a gunsmith before working for Hall Manufacturing Co. He ended up...

What names did Prentiss use besides Monarch?? Prentiss items besides vises?

Prentiss also had a Blake line, after the patents produced by John A. Blake. Here's a couple pictures of his work. The 181 is one of my restored vises. [URL="https://www.google.com/patents/US396066?dq=blake+prentiss&hl=en&sa=X&ei=DkE4VKiLO6njsAT3woGYCw&ved=0CCsQ6AEwAg"]

Can anyone make out this vise.

Could be an old Morgan. Those are pretty nice too. I agree with drives about the shape. It looks pretty whole, but you'd have to make sure there's no underlying issues.

68: I have a Yost 203 that I just restored but is significantly younger. My lock down is just a run of the mill carriage bolt. Yost was originally founded in Meadville in 1908. They have moved to two other locations in the past 100 yrs, so your vise has to be an early model. They are still in...

Update on the Prentiss 181: When I removed the nut, I found a previous brazed repair, half of the base was detached, and there was a crack that spanned the entire nut. After a couple hours with a welder and angle grinder, this is what I have. I'm not completely done, but Ive made some good...
