thanks for the replies. Just to double check myself, I want to do some of the work before the main disconnect is installed so make that process easier/faster. Is there any reason i couldn't separate grounds and neutrals in the panel now as long as I keep the bonding screw in there? Want to...
I am working on my garage/workshop addition finally and want some advice on my plan for power. The addition is going to be two stories, lower level is garage/workshop and upper level is master suite.
Currently my house has 150 amp service (upgraded from 100 about 8 years ago just before I...
This was my exact experience. I used to ride a bit when I was younger, never seriously though, just commuting and some recreational rides on an old bike in my garage. Then I got fat and sedentary. I wanted to make a life change and get back in shape but with two young kids and two working...
Carbon Fiber wrap is an interesting idea. Never done that before, but should be in the realm of my skillset. The seat post already extends below the crack, I've still been riding it.
For those chiming in about the weakened state, that's what I was afraid of, but given the non-structural...
That's what I was afraid of, it's too close to the joint to sleeve it unfortunately. I'll have to call around and see if I can find a fab shop to weld it for me . . .
So the frame broke on my bike. Right about the weld. It's 6061 heat treated aluminum. There's a warranty on the frame so they are going to ship me a new one, but it's been a couple weeks and they still haven't shipped it yet. I use this bike to commute to/from work everyday. So I was...
I'd love to go for a 2x6 wall, but the one register in the room is on an interior wall near the corner with the exterior wall. I can squeek by with a 2x4, but 2x6 would put the wall over the vent and that causes too many headaches.
To be honest, the floors probably could have been replaced when we just refinished them. I think they'll last 10-15 more years with our big dogs and kid(s) so I don't want to kick myself down the road for not taking the time to cut the floor the first time.
K13 - Just before we moved in, we...
Putting the walls over the hardwood floor would make it really hard to remove the hardwood flooring if we ever need to replace it, which is likely considering this is a family house, great location and a 1/2 acre lot in an area dominated by 1/4 acres, and we plan on staying here indefinitely...
So my wife and recently has our first child over the summer. We'd refinished the hardwood floors etc. in our fixer-upper house and painted the nursery, the whole nine yards. Now that we've seen fall/winter in the house, we've discovered that the nursery is the coldest room in the house (back...
I'm currently doing the same thing, thought in a newer house (1960s). I decided to forgo the furring strips though and do 2x4 walls (topand bottom plates anchored to floor and bottom of joists) to get the insulation values up. Any reason you're choosing furring over 2x4 walls?
Just want to put this out there. Chinese steel is/was subject to anti-dumping/countervailing duties that drove the cost up significantly. Therefore, the cost to continue to assemble lifts in the US using cheaper Chinese steel raised dramatically. However, the duty rate for an automotive lift...
I'm using it right now. Finishing a basement for SWMBO. It it noticeably lighter, but cutting it, I'm finding that there are occassionaly some "air pockets" in the gypsum and it crumbles a lot easier than regular drywall. I'm only about 8 sheets in right now but so far I don't have any...
Is against code to run electrical wire along a steel I-Beam? I'm in an older house now and need to put in a laundry room. The electrical panel is about 50 feet away from the location and I need to run a 220v line for the dryer. Most of the ceiling along the way is drywalled and the beam is...
