    Vintage wood plane

Nice old plane, Drmarkr... :) If you look at the front end of the plane, unless someone cut it down to fit in a tool box, you should see a manufacturer's stamp. With raking light and after rubbing some spit on it, it should be more legible. If you could post a pic of the stamp, I might be able...

Wood cabinets for tool, parts or nuts and bolts or even your socks. please show them

Hello Drive :) Nice find... I am envious.... Personally, I wouldn't put direct heat on wood. You might end up with damage from drying things out too fast. Even the sticky drawers might loosen up, once the wood has reached equilibrium with your shop. I would just leave things alone for a couple...

Show us your cool, "old" drill press

Hey Jabber, Sorry for taking so long to reply..... Yes, I did purchase the lathe as well. Unfortunately, in my haste to buy it, I didn't notice that it had parts missing and damage. I didn't pay much for it, but it was too far gone to fix, so I scrapped it. I felt like a traitor as I followed...

Wood cabinets for tool, parts or nuts and bolts or even your socks. please show them

Here's a cabinet that I built to house some of my woodworking hand tools... This is a cabinet that I built out of reclaimed 100 year old pine. The carcass is put together with dovetails, as are all of the drawers. All grooves and dadoes were cut with hand planes as well. It was a lot of...

    Shingle roofing for my garage

When installing 3-tab shingles, you have to make your cuts carefully for the "gullets" to line up or it looks like heck. With architectural shingles, it doesn't matter as there is no pattern that shows up. You still have to stagger the joints for weathering, though. Brian

Here's an old W.J&F Barnes drill press that I bought a few years ago... Neat machinery dealer tag... Original decal... Cleaned up and painted...

Show us Your Vintage Bench Grinders!!!!

Not exactly a bench grinder, but I do see a few pedestal grinders... I bought it for real cheap, but had to have the motor rewound to 220v 3-phase from 550v. It swings 2"x12" wheels and hums right along. Super quiet and vibration free. Here's a few pics after I cleaned it up and painted...

    Wood Shop and Carpentry Considerations

Hello Scooter :) Lots of fine examples and ideas of shops. I combine woodworking and metal working in the same shop space, 26'x36'. It's not ideal, but it's what I have to work with. Like the above quote, I placed the tablesaw in the center and built an outfeed table to support sheet goods and...

    SawStop Test

I attended a local woodworking show a few years ago and was shopping for a cabinet tablesaw as well as a mortising machine. I ended up buying a General International mortising machine and a Steel City tablesaw. I went through all of the booths and put each tablesaw through all of the...

    2x4 vs 2x6 walls?

Hey Teebs... :) I don't think that we have all of the information to assess your situation. Adding the 2x4 wall to allow an R20 insulation value is a very good idea, but this should coincide with a ceiling R40 value. You mentioned about beefing up the ceiling joists to allow for storage. Will...

Hello all :) I just joined this forum this morning. I am from the Moncton area of New Brunswick, Canada. I am a self-employed carpenter with a love for machining. My shop is combined between woodworking and metal working. I am in the process of renovating a horizontal milling machine and hope...
