I live less than a mile from the New Britain factory, and I've found literally hundreds of interesting tools within a 25-mile radius of my house over the last 3 years or so. I visit 6 or 7 pawn shops, a clean-out service's junk store, 4 or 5 flea markets, the occasional estate sales, tag sales...

Here are two recently-acquired Wizard slip-joint pliers - an HR1204 10" and an HR1131 7". They're "as-found"; no cleaning done. Both have some plating damage, but functionally they're both very good with not a lot of wear. No owner's marks. $9.00 for both plus shipping.

The latest Wizard acquisitions...not pristine but not bad.

Just acquired a Giller-branded pair of slip-joint pliers, with "U.S.A.-Diamond" forged into the handles. I can't find any evidence that Diamond made tools under contract for Giller. Hmmm. They do look like Diamond pliers to me.

Thanks, Lugz - I did see the catalog and brochure you mention; I was kinda hoping you had a later one up your sleeve;)! Quite an interesting company - there seems to be no end to the number of special-purpose pliers they turned out.

These look fairly "recent" to me. I believe Schollhorn continued to be active into the 1940s, but I can't find a '30s or '40s catalog.

Recently acquired these - a big beast of a wire-forming tool. The largest size I've seen in the catalogs is 7-1/2", but these are 8-1/2". They're in really good shape, don't even need cleaning. Seem to be very lightly used. Anyone seen a pair this big?

I apologize for taking advantage of your prodigious research skills! I've acquired a large haul (200+) of old tools recently, and every waking moment is spent getting them into my database. But I got very excited to find the Mephisto piece, and just had to take a rest from data-entry to get it...

Thanks for doing this research, and so quickly! Do you have a guess on when this is from? I know that BX cable has been around since the very early 20th century (around the time Mephisto was started, I think), and many devices have been invented to wrastle with it.

Thanks for finding the code - my old eyes thought that symbol was just a "this way on <-> this way off sign! Got the knob off without breaking the screw. It was really on there! It does look like a user job; here's more pics. Actually, a little filing and sanding could make this a lot more...

Alloy Artifacts has a similarly-marked pair that they date to the 1940s - 1950s.
