I hope it was a quality axle…
Not sure if it’s the same on that generation but for my ‘03 Jetta the general consensus on the forums is that the OEM axles are the only things worth putting in/rebuilding, as the Chinese (“Chaxles”) almost invariably fail in short order.
Ah shoot it finally happened, I forgot the drain plug while changing oil on one of our tech’s trucks today. Luckily I remembered before I poured the whole jug in, in fact I think I only lost half a liter.
And while this is the only time I’ve done that in over ten years of oil changes, I’m a...
Yep my ‘03 Jetta had the same kind of bolts, hammer and chisel works a treat. I replaced them with button head cap screws, in case I ever need to take it apart again.
We use a lot of Knipex at work and they hold up extremely well to all sorts of abuse. And I don’t think I’ve seen them actually rust except if you don’t clean them after a couple of days working in pig barns, and even then a wipe-down with WD40 or something cleans them right back up.
Warning, going to go full nerd on you here! Lol

As for what I did in the garage, I fueled up the old chainsaw to make sure she works for me tomorrow. Need to clean up some branches the power company left after trimming my trees back from the power lines.
I was expecting the saw to need a carb clean as it hasn’t been run in two years, but a...
I did not assume. I worked there for four years, and I talked to and worked with nearly every person in the plant.
Everybody liked the old guy, he’d been there almost from the beginning, and he did his job very well, but he was retirement age and wanted to visit his family more.
Ok I do not agree. Make the new guy start from scratch instead of learn from your decades of experience just because you might have “bad habits”? How does that even make sense?
Here is the other side of that situation, from my own experience: Some years ago I started a new job at a...
Shoot, I must have missed that one somehow, I don’t remember seeing an email about it. Very cool to see Makita forging ahead with the LXT line again though.
I think that is the right tool, (if I remember correctly from my years of YouTube education lol) but don’t cut flush, leave the handle 1/8” proud of the head.
