Hey y'all, my house search continues. Today I finally found a house with a garage with high ceilings. I measured the bay and from the wall of the house to the centerline between the two garage doors is 133.75". However the lift I have in mind (BL-9) says it's about 138" wide. So even if I...
After more research, first of all someone has blazed this trail already: https://diy.stackexchange.com/questions/171624/is-it-safe-to-remove-the-bottom-chords-of-a-series-of-garage-roof-trusses and it seems like NOT a good idea. So the question is, is it possible to economically modify this...
Upon reflection this is not a great picture. After further research, it appears this is a "Fink Truss." https://www.structuralbasics.com/fink-truss/ The question is, can I remove the bottom chord? It looks like it's under tension in the diagram so probably not a great idea but still curious...
Hi folks you may remember me from this thread. I'm still shopping and I've just looked at this house that has a very high peaked roof over the garage. Note I don't know all the terminology so I'll be using words awkwardly. If you can correct my terminology that's welcome, too. The ceiling...
THIS RIGHT HERE! Thank you. In this case, rise means the distance from the floor to the bottom of the arms? Looks like I can get 75" with some extension hardware. I would also imagine that one has to be super careful near the max extension with the ceiling clearance.
I'm 5'10" Definitely want something higher than a max Jack. I think I have seen some bend pak stuff that has a column height of 117 in. There is also the "zero post" concept that digs deep into the ground
This is exactly the scenario I envision. Can stand fully upright under a sports car, but may have to stoop for truck sized things. Definitely leaning towards cables on the floor in my case.
This is something my real estate agent has brought up. She calls it popping the top and I did do some searches and found out about scissor trusses. I feel like this is hard to figure out logistics during a typical showing. The real estate market in my area is bonkers with pretty much every...
Yeah, this is why I planned for a little bit of wiggle room and, for example, I would be okay with having the drip rails at 72 inches as supposed to 75. Of course if I had a magic wand I would get a house with a garage with 14' ceilings.
Thank you for this perspective. I have borrowed a couple of friends' lifts in the past few months. One was a four post where I could comfortably stand up underneath and it was amazing. (I didn't have to take the wheels off so I didn't have to fuss with the extra lift. Most of the work that I do...
Maybe, but I feel like I'm a residential garage, I will be working with less space and the four posts takes up more space. Besides, the issue of ceiling height is the same, is it not?
I addressed this in the OP. I don't mind having less clearance when working on a truck, it's the sports cars that I'm going to be working on 90% of the time even if I buy additional vehicles.
