    It'll work, but only if it is AI controlled. Looks like you could remove a lower course brick or two from the back side, wouldn't have to disturb your turf. Replace the bricks with some short sections plastic pipe and mortar them in. Use something more visually appealing than PVC if you wish...

    I usually make my own from a cheap HDPE cutting board and a hole saw. You can quickly make quite a few out of a $20.00 cutting board. Don't really need the holes to attach, just the hole in the center.

    Toilet leaking at base

    You said, "I discovered that the toilet bowl was not holding a normal water level". I'm not a plumber but to me that would indicate that the bowl itself is leaking. A leaking wax ring or stopped up drain would not cause the water level in the bowl to drop.
