I have used WD-40 to remove fresh tar and it worked very well. Went through an overlay project on the way home from work. Soon as I got home I sprayed with WD-40 and it came right off.

Zoro has it for $25.48. I have had one for 4 to 5 years. I use often and no complaints. They do seem to be well made and will stand up to heavy duty usage.
