How important is garage closely matching house style?

We live in a gated HOA subdivision so our detached garage/workshop had to match/complement the house in design/construction. Because of the shape of the lot the design of my detached garage looks like a smaller house next to my wife's house. :) We don't expect to get back more than maybe 1/3...

Are most roofers going to new style felt paper instead of the traditional 15/30# felt

In Florida, peel/stick under-layment is now required by code.

    Building my first garage. Questions....

Add your location to your profile. It will help you receive more useful replies. I don't think I would involve an architect for a 600 sq ft garage unless there are strict HOA or local government appearance regulations, but that's just me. A GC will charge you 20-30% to hire/manage subs so...

    Watching football in the shop

Unless you can completely control any exterior sunlight then a projector picture is going to look very washed out.

Pros and Cons of a wood or metal garage?

I'm guessing there's no HOA involved if a metal building is an option?

    Garage for the RV

I agree with the 14 ft tall door people. Maximum legal height for RVs/trailers/boats (without special permits) is 13'6" so I would want a 14' high door. Just in case.

    42x68 'Iron Horse' Garage/Workshop Build

I used a 12" piano hinge to mount the control/display panel for the helix area and I used a magnetic latch to hold it closed. A wider view of the helix control/status panel. The view of the helix with the panel door open. I plan to locate the Laser 3 Modeling "John Murray & Sons Coal...

    42x68 'Iron Horse' Garage/Workshop Build

I took about two months off from the layout construction to deal with purchasing a property in TN, and then prep boat/trailer/dive gear/UW photo equipment/etc for two weeks vacation in Marathon in May and then 'paycheck' work got extremely busy late May and all of June. I started back on the...

What to do with a marble slab?

If you could grind it up into 1/32" to 1/16" grains I would use it for ballast on my HO gauge train layout. :)

Trying to get an idea about garage size

Our 2400 sq ft detached garage/workshop near Sanford FL was built in late 2014/early 2015. It's CBS/stucco exterior, with full bathroom, about 1150 sq ft of air conditioned space, 200 AMP service/meter from street, and architecturally matches the house (HOA/ARC subdivision). It cost approx $50...

Is it worth it? Any regrets?

Worth it? Absolutely. I got three estimates from local contractors to do 1200 sq ft (grind, prime, epoxy, heavy flake, urethane top) and they were all $7000-$7600. I ended up buying supplies from https://www.garageflooringllc.com/ and renting the grinder from Home Depot and doing it myself for...

    42x68 'Iron Horse' Garage/Workshop Build

If you devolve the entire layout track design to its simplest form then it's a loop to loop design with the two loops being the lower and upper return loops and the mainline connecting them. These return loops have automated turnouts so a single train can run continuously with no human...

Starting to work on the next upper level wall panels. Patching/fairing/sanding and then primer/paint. I have six sections of track in the lower/middle levels around the center platform where turnouts on the mainline connect with service/spur track that will be mounted directly to the foam...

    New Home/Garage!

if you think you might ever get a boat with a T-Top or an RV that you want to park in the garage, then you will want to have a 14' tall door.
