What material should I used to fill gaps along floor at corner of the garage door?

I recently insulated and heated my garage, and now am in the process of sealing it up nice and tight for efficiency. The garage door generally has a good seal with no light coming through around the edges, with two exceptions. These pictures show the corners of the door along the floor. My...

Composite decking used as shelf in garage on top of foundation

Good point. It is more of a ledge. It's not perfectly flat but there is minimal variance. I expect it would appear perfectly flat underneath the decking. There may be some little gaps but as long as it is secured down properly I don't think it would be a concern.

Composite decking used as shelf in garage on top of foundation

Thanks. I plan on using 5.5" width planks. That means at most 2.5" would overhang, and most of it would only have 1.5" of overhang. I called it a shelf, but it is manly for aesthetic purposes. I would put small things on it, though, like wheel chocks, a spray nozzle, etc.

Composite decking used as shelf in garage on top of foundation

Azec trim looks good, except it only comes in white. I'd rather not have to apply a chemical coating to the product I use. Trex is a recognized brand name with pretty good quality. Is that the brand I should go for, or is it overkill for my purpose? Is there a better value for my project...

Hey gang, thanks for all of the help. Here are some pictures of the area:

Composite decking used as shelf in garage on top of foundation

I have a foundation wall about 2' high on either side of my garage. I am considering putting composite decking (or something else?) on top of my foundation wall to use as a shallow shelf that runs the length of the garage. Has anyone else done this? Are there better materials to use? I want...

Question about passing a water line and air line through wall from house into garage

Thanks for the clarification. The air compressor tank has a valve at the bottom of it that I leave open when not in use. I only use it a few times annually. The rest of the time it is off.

Question about passing a water line and air line through wall from house into garage

I've used the compressor in the basement previously. I'm alright with the noise. In fact, I was a little surprised it wasn't noisier in the main living area upstairs. Yes, I could elevate it in the garage, although that option is significantly less appealing to me. I'm not sure what you mean...

Question about passing a water line and air line through wall from house into garage

Thanks for the post. My house is set up a little differntly than most. The alley-loaded garage is on the same level as the mudroom and unfinished basement. The main floor of the house is up a level, which is where the front door is on the opposite side of the house from the garage. So the...

Question about passing a water line and air line through wall from house into garage

A friend of mine owns a commercial air compressor company. He's hooking me up with extruded aluminum pipe specifically designed for compressed air. It uses a press-fit system for joinery, and what he says is the best thing available. Apparently it's used by many large-scale compressed air...

Question about passing a water line and air line through wall from house into garage

Ahhh, cool. I wasn't aware of that stuff. So just drill a hold, slide in the pipe (heh), secure it, then seal around with fire block, huh? I think I can manage that. Can fire block be textured and painted? I'm going to be finishing the garage interior in the coming months. Or maybe I can...

Question about passing a water line and air line through wall from house into garage

Great, thank you. I was hoping it would be this easy, but my fear of the unknown can be paralyzing sometimes. I just don't want to screw it up. So I'll drill from the wall side. Will I need to seal the moisture barrier around the pipe somehow? What is best for that? Just duct tape? And what...

Question about passing a water line and air line through wall from house into garage

I just moved into a different house. The garage isn't as big as I would like, so I'm trying to make the most of the space in there that I do have. Part of my strategy is keeping my air compressor in the basement, then running a line for compressed air from the basement into the garage. The...

    Lighting placement suggestions

Well, technically they are fixtures that use 4' bulbs, but they're end-to-end, which makes them 8' long. That way bulbs aren't such a PITA to deal with.
